ICM help

I need some advice with my TA. I have had several problems with the ignition control module. The TA died on me on the way to work one Tuesday morning. The car would restart after 20 min. or so. I took the ICM into O'Rielly's and it tested bad. Well i got the new part the next day and installed it. I drove the car for the first time today and the same thing happend. The TA just dies after about 10 minutes of driving and will restart in about 20. I got home and checked the codes and it is throwing codes 16 and 36.

Did i just get a bad part or do i have something more wrong like the opti?

Thanks,

Did you buy a GM ICM or was it from a parts store. I have had nothing but trouble using the parts store ones and everytime I put a new GM unit on it always runs fine.

I looked at Shbox's site and found a ICM spaceing procedure it am going to try. I don't think it can hurt at this point.

Are you sure it's the ICM? I know I was having opti problems which sound alot like the same situation you have. I would make sure your opti vent lines are working.

I beleive the codes will get thrown when ever their is a problem with any part of the ingnition system. I have the ICM's tested and they are always bad. I had the opti repleace around 25 thousand miles ago so it should be ok. When the opti went bad the car would buck and snort alot. This is just a striaght cut in power. No worning just goes from the car running good to coasting.

Yes. Lots of it on the ICM and the metal part that attachs to the head.

Just an idea, but does your power cut out?
Maybe its just a loose battery terminal..?

The battery is fine. New withing six months and the car just has to cool down without doing anything else it will start up. I went to the parts store where i bought it and they gave me a new one. I wanted them to test both before i left but there machine wasn't working at the time.

Thanks,
16 and 36 are pointing you to the opti, not the ICM. Check the opti electrical harness for corrosion and proper contact, first.

What would be the best way to clean off the corrosion?
