I'm in the process of installing new valve springs on my heads and I think I might have the wrong roller rockers (see photo below). These are brand new LT1 heads. I've installed new Comp Cams beehive springs with new seats, locks, retainers and 10 degree locks. The rockers are Crane Cams 1.6 aluminum rockers 3/8" stud self aligning part number 10758-16. The problem is that the washers that are on the sides of the roller tip are the part that actually comes into contact with the spring retainer. Does anyone have a clue if these are the wrong rockers? If these are wrong what do I need to get instead? Help!

 

Looks like you don't have enough valve stem to run self-aligning rockers. Did you use +.050 locks to get the correct installed heigth? You may have to get non self-aligning rockers/guide plates/hardened pushrods.

 

You need to run non-self aligning rockers with that setup.

 

Do non-self aligning rockers need push rod guides?

 

recommended....and of course hardened push rods...

Crap! I forgot about buying some good push rods. Well, that's next - after some new rockers. Any one want to buy some self aligning rockers? New in the box

 

I'll trade you some NSA Crane 1.6s with guideplates and pushrods for yours plus cash.

 

Why not call Crane or wherever you bought those and see if you can trade them out?

 

Oh and I have new ARP studs to go with.

 

I bought the rockers from a member of this site. I did some digging in my parts and realized that I do in fact have some pushrods. Comp Cams 7808 High Energy pushrods. Will these be sufficient? If not, any suggestions?

 

Loaded question. There's been all kinds of controversy over hardened pushrods. Some say they are all junk and only chromoly should be used.
I've used LPE hardened pushrods with great success w/ my 211/219 cam.
I would say depending on your spring pressures then you should go with chromoly. Hardened (ie LPE hardened pushrods) may be okay for light combos like the 211 or LT4 hotcam style profiles, but anything larger which requires more spring pressure I'd go with chromoly.

 

I used comp hardened pushrods with no issues with my 503. After investing in heads however I am going Chromoly. I have the comp ones that I just pulled today for sale if anybody needs them.
