I think Edelbrock heads are now available for the LT1!!

I've been reading the posts about them, but nobody seemed to have a definite date when they would be available or what kind of number they would see. I just got the new Pace Performance catalog today and on page 137, in the LT1/LS1 section they have them listed:

ED61909: Performer LT1 Head for 92-97 GEN II LT1 engines Designed for use on the Chevy 92-97 LT1, these aluminum heads have specially designed 170cc intake & 60cc exhaust ports with increased valve sizes (1.94" intake / 1.55" exhaust) for maximum flow and performance. Combustion chamber volume is 54cc. A prototype set of Edelbrock Performer Series LT1 heads made 24hp more than oem LT1 heads and raised the peak power level by 500 rpm. Price: $529.99

Anybody seen any flow numbers on these yet or what kind of gains can be expected from a production set, and not the prototype set?

170cc runners? Ugh.

Nice price though. I wonder if they've got a thicker deck than stock like the AFRs. I don't see a reason to switch to these over a ported LT1 or LT4 casting.

Sort of looks like Edelbrock brought a knife to a gun fight...

After the failed attempt at producing a significantly better LT1 intake, you would have thought they would have learned their lesson. 170cc runners? 24 more horsepower than stock heads? Wow.

Yeah really, those heads don't sound too impressive. I think ported stock LT1 heads would be better than those.

yes, they are not THAT impressive.

However, these heads would be good for someone like me who:

a) doesn't have alot of cash ($529 a pair for heads is cheap)

b) doesn't have access to someone who can port and polish stock castings (wish I did, but I can't find anyone)

For the same price as LT4s, do you really think they would be better?

Heads are priced as singles almost always unless they state for the pair. They are not going to go through all the tooling and die making process for a set of heads and then make no money off them. I'd go for a set of cheapie LT1 ported stockers first.

FYI:
24HP over stock heads w/ a stock cam is damned good... IMHO
They are 52X.XX EACH not a pair.. And i'm sure being they are new casting's they might be able to be ported out quite a bit.. Just nice to see the aftermarket trying to catch up.. If more company's come out w/ product's it will drop competitor's pricing as well .. So hopefully everyone will benefit from these...

IMHO....at no time is it worth it to do a head swap for a whopping 24hp increase. Especially for over $1000.00 the pair. OUCH.

Is it $550 or whatever for the pair or one?
