I never thought I would have Opti problems
Re: I never thought I would have Opti problems
TPS? check the opti connector for condensation. check for any waterleaks. its possible you may have a leak like i did, it would only drip 2 or 3 times onto the opti from under the heater core intake hose, but only when the car was warm and the thermostat open
Re: I never thought I would have Opti problems
Well I finally replaced the opti today. Although the car responds a little better to the throttle there is still something wrong. I can push it to the floor in neutral or in gear and sometimes it will rev up and sometimes it wont. While driving it around the block I had the pedal to the floor and it would hardly move then all of a sudden it would take off. I also heard some popping/backfiring type noise from the engine bay. When I got it home I could smell something burning. The headers were extremely hot and I had only driven a mile or so. What would cause the headers to be so hot? Is this a symptom of something else that is wrong with my car? There was nothing wrong with my car prior to the cam/rocker/lifter/timing chain install. I felt that the install went well but there is one thing that I did that I wish I hadn't. I drove the crank hub back on with a socket and a hammer instead of pressing it back on. Could that be part of the problem?
Please note that I still have the stock torque converter and I need to get a new tune for the cam.

Re: I never thought I would have Opti problems
I also forgot to mention that I took the old opti apart and I did not see any signs of oxidation or moisture. So what's the next step I should take? Get larger injectors and get a tune or is there something more serious wrong with the car?
Re: I never thought I would have Opti problems
I had the same problem after i degree'ed my cam. I installed the opti and tried to fire it up with out the water pump or intake on. It would idle but would try to die if i gave it any gas. I ended up checking the firing order and had 2 plug wires switched around, i don't know why that would cause it to die under acceleration, but it fixed the problem.
Re: I never thought I would have Opti problems
My car was doing the very same thing. I wish I would have seen this thread in time to let you know. Anyways.....I replaced the Opti and thought for sure it would be cured...didn't change a thing. I finally figured out the problem, my fuel pump was on its way out. You should try that man! Good luck!

Re: I never thought I would have Opti problems
The way I found out, is my mechanic checked the fuel pressure, and it was way down. I don't remember exactly what it was carrying, sorry. A fairly knowledgeable mechanic should be able to do this for you.
