Quit listening to those people. I know numerous people that spray the crap out of 2 bolt SBC blocks. The SBC (which the LT1 is one) is pretty durable as long as it has plenty of oil (just like any other motor) and you keep the revs down.

okay everyone is scared of the opti, they are actually not that bad! I have had the same opti in my motor for going on the 4th season and i race my car pretty much everytime i drive it.
Been to several track events etc.
The motor laid down 411RWHP/396RWTQ for the first 3 seasons of abuse, also seeing 6600RPM on a daily basis.
Now the car is turboed and on my first dyno pull untuned i laid down 584RWHP/491RWTQ@6250rpm
The trick is, take the opti apart when u get it and GLUE the screws inside. Just use an oem opti. My buddy tried the MSD before and it blew into pieces after about 1000km.
Also try to not power wash the motor etc.
Once it finally dies on me I will just convert to a SBC distrib.
I say turbo the car as it sits!
