I need some traction!?!?!

What else can I do to get some traction. I have an M6 formula, and there is no way I can get a good launch. I am thinking of getting nitto 555r's or similar tires, but what else can I do without getting an expensive rearend. Are there any shocks or springs that would help? Thanks

I am using BMR subframe connectors control arms and torque arm,BFG drag radials and an airbag in the passenger side.Seems to be pretty effective.
anyone else?

Tires.

Whether they be Nitto Drag Radials, BFG Drags, ET Streets, Hoosier QT Pros, ANYTHING that's designed for traction, will be your best bet at getting there.

Suspension modifications won't help much unless you improve the four places where your car touches the ground.

you can get an air bag for the pass. side, will keep your launch straight. and nitto 555r's are not the best for traction. i have 275/40/18 Nittos 555r on my M/6 T/A, and the get really loose on launch, (my cam and headers in my sig. go in next weekend so its pretty stock right now) get some Nitto DRs

I belive the 555r is the drag radial and the 555 is the non DR.. i was looking into nittos a while back and thats what i came up with.. im almost positive thats how it is

When debating between Nittos or BFGs I heard a lot of people say that the BFGs had better traction and the Nittos lasted longer. So I went with BFGs.Also the 16" BFGs are a 255/50 and the Nittos are a 245/50 isn't that much but 1mm extra can't hurt.

Thats 10mm or 1cm each tire, so its realy short of an inch. Dont know if it will help the traction issue fomr that.

Also, RamAir95TA, I have read many thread in here on how much of a diference the right suspension can do to a launch. There ahve been soem guys with nice HP and good tires, and could not get it to hook right untill they did some suspension mods.

I say every part plays a role. Driver, HP, Tires, suspension, and Practice all play a big role in traction.

I could consistently cut 1.8's on a decent track back when all I had done to my car was cold air, headers, cat back, shifter and drag radials. The car was an M6 at the time. However if I got out of the groove or the track was crappy, like on a street night when they didn't use any VHT, 60' times were mid 1.9's and 2.0's. That was because I was usually bracket racing and would back off on the power so I could cut consistent times.

The single best mod to make is decent tires. Everything else is a waste unless you actually improve the quality of the contact patch between your car and the track surface.

the nitto 555r's are the drag radials...they are like 160 each from discounttiredirect.com and they will last a few months to a season depending on how much u drive and how much u pound on them...they stick better than regular tires and can still be driven on daily, which is nice
two words of warning tho
1. dont run them with more than like 22psi hot on the street, they will wear uneven quickly
2. dont drive in the rain with them near bald...common sense for any tire, but especially for a drag radial...trust me...

the bfg's will stick better, but they wear very fast...so much so if u daily drive and only race every once in awhile they probably arent worth it

These were the most effective mods I found:

BFG Drag Radials (for stock rear end).

Spohn Lower Control Arms.

Spohn Relocation Brackets.

You can get everything from www.sybersport.com. Tell Darren Grip sent you.

What about drag slicks? Would they give me better traction than say nittos or something similar? Or would it be too hard on my rearend. On a basically stock M6, how much time would a good set of tires take off?

all out slicks? they will giv u much! better traction than nittos...BUT
-drag slicks are not street legal
-they cannot be used for daily road driving, legal or not
-say goodbye to your stock 10 bolt after your first or second launch

a normal drag radial like the nitto 555rs will probably trim 2/10ths (maybe 1 tenth, maybe 3, but 2 is a decent average) off your time if you lower the pressure and heat them up...with the right launch rpms ofcourse...and 1 or 2 tenths saved on your launch is usually worth double that on your 1/4 time

Okay, thats pretty much what I thought. So are there any moderately cheap ways to beef up the rear end?

you could get a ta cover for it, like 140 new, i got mine used for 75...u can get stronger internal parts for it, but in the end u are probably throwing money away, keep that money and save it for a real rear end is unfortunately the only advice i can give
