I need new clutch...im a newbie...advice?

I drive a '95 z28 m6...everything transmission-wise is stock, the only mods i have for power are a reprogrammed pcm, an exhaust, and a cold air intake. My car has 76,000 miles on it right now, and Im pretty sure the clutch is getting ready to give in any day now. This is my first manual car, so I dont know much about transmissions and such. I was wondering, what kind of clutch should I buy to replace it? Any brand recommendations? I dont plan on ever doing anything more than cams and headers in the future, so I dont really need one that can handle a lot of power. I daily drive my car, but i drive it hard, occasional stop-light races and such. I would like to try to stay as close to a $500 price range for this clutch as I can (not including labor, of course), so which clutch do you guys recommend I get? And also, do i need to buy anything else with it, or just a clutch kit? i see all this stuff about pressure plates, and discs, and stuff, i dont know anything about it. Thanks in advance for all the help!

Resurface the stock flywheel and go for the SLP PP and disk. Do a search and find out all you need. Headers and a cam huh? You say that now, then you have them and its not enough. I thought I was going to leave my car stock LOL. Now I'm planning on LT4 heads/intake, custom cam and a turbo in the future. Speed is addicting.

I just finished up my Spec stage II install not to long ago. Its rated up to 475 hp, but it drives like the stock clutch, just grabs much sooner and harder. So far I have about 750-800 miles on it and it holds great and drives smooth as can be. It grabs hard enough to chirp my Nitto drag radials. Also, that clutch retails for $450 but can be found for less. I paid $404 shipped to my door.

Right now, im really looking in to the SPEC stage II. Does this clutch include a new flywheel in the price? I hear mixed reactions on these. Thanks a lot for the fast responses guys, by the way. And happy Memorial Day.

It does not include a new flywheel. I just got mine resurfaced for $25 and all is well. I too had heard mixed thoughts about this clutch but went with it anyways. I think if you break it in properly you'll probably have good luck with it. Im only about 800miles into mine so its hard to say but so far I love it.

If you don't have many mod you'd probably be better off with just a stock LT1 clutch. Get your oem flywheel resurfaced. There is no need to spend more money than necessary . The oem hardware is fairly good unless you are pushing bigger HP numbers.
