ok my car started acting funny this morning on the way to work, the ABS INOP light came on i dont know if that will have anything to do with it. i noticed the voltage gage was kinda lower than normal. well taking a friend home from work my car starts acting really funny, radio completely cutting off then coming back on, speedo going whacky, and voltage VERY LOW. well i make it to an advance auto, they test the battery and alternator and they both check out. so im like well maybe the battery just got low or something, and i take him home. well i barley make it from his house to mine, starts doing all thatr crap again, so i turn off everything(lights, radio, radar detector, etc) and i make it to my house, i cut if off then try to start it again....its DEAD. i have no clue what going on since they said both the battery and alternator are good. BTW i believe this is still the stock alternator, which means it has 170k on it.

 

Did your charge drop to red or run close the 8volt mark for a while?

 

both times before i made it to advance and before i made it home from advance it was at the 8volt line.

 

Did they take it off the car and test the alternator. It sounds like classic alternator prob. to me or at least I have had the same problem twice with two other cars I have owned. When you started turning things off did the lights get a little brighter?It sounds like an alternator.......

 

I'd say the alt. is gone bad. You pretty much drain the life out of your battery while you were running around and there isn't enough juice to start the car up again.

 

they didnt take it off and test it, they ran a test while it was running.

 

Well just take it off and get it looked at, it's like 3-4 bolts. Also get your battery charged up.
