I need a dynoproven airfilter that FLOWS

Just dynoed this weekend and gained ~8rwhp by removing the Moroso CAI completely. I'm going to fab up some 4" piping, but I need an air filter. As you can see, I *thought* I had enough filter...

Larger K&N air filter (not the stock Moroso)

Modified Moroso CAI

I have seen some HUGE K&N filters, but I'd really like to hear from anyone who has dynoed before and after with their CAI on/off.

Sure your filter just isnt dirty, shoulda tried dynoing with the CAI on but the filter off.

Would have been a good idea...

Filter was cleaned a few weeks ago - really didn't look to cruddy after I pulled it off.

I will try a new CAI before I purchase a new filter.

honestly the size of the filter isnt that important. a while back either hotrod or chp did a dyno study with the same engine and different sized kn filters and they were all within abotu the same hp. and one of the smaller filters actually outdid alot of the bigger ones

If you really removed it completely then your gain didn't come from losing the filter, but from losing the crimped tubing that fits between the radiator shroud and the ABS. There isn't much to do about this restriction without removing or relocating the ABS.

Yep my guess is inline with Chris.

I bet the problem is the cai not the filter.

Cool

I will be heading to the store/yard for some steel flatbar and some brake lines - time to get a little creative .

I can speculate what the loss is from, but I am kicking myself for not pulling the filter only on the dyno to see what would happen.

Its purely speculation right now which is what I wanted to get away from.

You know what would be nice, would be a 4" mandrel bent piece of aluminum or thin guage steel, then have it coated on the inside with something quite slick, probably only fit without ABS though. I would think that would flow quite well, just slap a conical K&N on there.

I had something like this in mind. I want to keep the filter low, so moving the abs to the current filter position is not possible. I was looking at it today, and I think I have a good idea of what I'm going to do. Probably a little more in depth than most would care to do, but I really enjoy using my resources for "custom" jobs.

I'll get pics of whatever I end up with .
