I need a check list for the Delteq

Im going to order the bare bones kit I think and try to get the other things from a junkyard and the wires from a speed shop... What kind of wires do I need and what all do I need from the junkyard to work with what I get from Delteq? Thanks in advance...

They say their wires are a carbon core, and the way the system is you don't need a fancy spiral core or whatever wire. But, they only come in black, and I want a different color so I'm getting my own. I'll get a better wire too.

The ignition coils and module you can get off of the V-8 Oldsmobile Aurora's, or whatever Cadillac's came with the Northstar engine.

The rest you need to get from Delteq.

You could also just go to eBay, punch in "northstar coils" and get yourself the 4 coilpacks + ign. module "new take-off" for $120 + $15 shipped. That's where I got mine.

If you have a 5-spd, you can opt for the valve-cover mount instead of the radiator mount. Auto's can't though because of the Traction Control crap that's in the way. Well, you can if you have Long Tubes, might be a pain if you don't have LT's.

94Camaro -- The FRC w/ coil mounts from MBA products is not for the Delteq (Northstar) coil conversion. That thing is made for use with the 8 individual LS1 coils (used with Bob Bailey's LTCC box).

You have two options from Delteq -- the valvecover mount and the lower radiator fan shroud mount. Or, you can try to custom-mount it somewhere, but you'll have to deal with the length of the wiring harness. Naturally, you should use whichever is easiest for you. I chose the valvecover mount (Caprice/Impala version).

Pete Visser of Delteq assured me that you really can't beat the high-temp, carbon-core wires that are included in the kit. They were designed for use with the Delteq unit and over-built coils. I would try to use them if possible -- I'm sure they chose that type of wire for a reason.

Do you have any pics of your Delteq installed... thanks for clearing up the MBA brakcet, it didnt look right lol... if I get the fan shroud mount, will that help to hide the coils better than the valve cover mount? thanks so much guys... I cant wait to install this and get my car to a track to see what its got...

I figured they used the carbon-core wires for cost reasons...Pete didn't say it would necessarily be bad to use another kind of wire, just that these are more than enough...

I guess if you want black then get the wirest that he has for $42, if you want another color then get your own cut-to-length's.

What's MBA bracket? What's FRC? Haven't heard those acronyms before...

Yes, if you get the below fan mount, you won't hardly be able to see them. If you get the Vette style valve cover mount, well, they're right there on top of your engine.

I got the Valve cover mount because I wanted to be different and have it 'up in yo face'.

www.delteq.com has pics of both mounts.

With the A4 you can't do a valve cover mount anyways AFAIK.

Actually, mine is currently in the process of being delivered. I will be sure to take pics once the kit arrives... and installed pics shortly thereafter (shouldn't take long to install). Expecting it perhaps this week -- next week at the latest.

Yes, the radiator shroud mount would hide the coils rather well -- wouldn't see the ICM/coils unless you got underneath the car. You'll just have to be careful where you route the wires around the drivebelt. The unit is sealed, and shouldn't have any problems with moisture and dirt under the car, but I opted for the valvecover mount to make certain there would be no problems. I'm personally more concerned with functionality than looks, though you wouldn't know it by looking at my engine bay. -Just a subjective opinion...

MBA is making a bracket to mount the LS1 coils nicely between the fuel rails and valve covers....

I guess it works out then since I have the A4 and i want them hidden

Dave -- Mallory Billet Aluminum (MBA) sells a fuel-rail cover (FRC) for mounting the 8 LS1 coils. You can see it if you scroll down in the following link: http://www.mbaproducts.com/whatsnew.htm

Not available to the public yet, AFAIK. (as far as I know )

[EDIT] It should also be noted that, if you have the traction control box on the driver's valve cover (or anything else blocking that area), you might have some clearance issues with the Delteq valvecover-mounted coils. I would imagine that they could just be pushed forward on the valvecover with TCS, though.

Goodluck with the install, from what I have heard, seems really straight foward but you never know lol...

I like the looks and functionality hehe

94Cam -- Engine bay looks great -- I can see why you wouldn't want to clutter it up.

However, it looks like you've got a valvecover breather on the driver's side? That would most definitely interfere with the valvecover-mounted Delteq. Radiator shroud mount is definitely the route for you to take, IMHO.

Dave -- Get 'er done!!!
