I know I need the tune, BUT.....

First of all, I am getting the tune. I had to replace the head gaskets so I changed the cam and got a p&p. But since the cam was just the 305 I knew it would run with the stock program. But my G-Tech says I lost about a second and about 25 HP from before the mods.
I thought I sould at LEAST be back to stock with out the tune.
Is the tune going to get me back to stock and THEN the 30-50 HP more that this mod is suppose to give!!??
Or do I have something wrong that others have seen?

Any help or comments appreciated.

Cam's not going to run well until you get some gears. 2.73 + stock converter + cam = slow

Then get it tuned.

But how much, realistically, is an email tune going to be worth? I'm considering it now too. Hopefully I can pick up 1-3 mph, is this expecting too much???

its definately worth it as far as ive seen. Tune is practicly a must if you want to see the true benifit of a cam

I know I need the gears also. But should I lose HP? I thought the cc305 was not THAT much bigger than stock. I though others with the 305 at least got back to stock before their tune. ???

You need a tune to make a cam run at it potential no matter the size im sure you will pick up quite a bit of hp with a tune

The cc305 is way better than stock. I can't remember the stock #'s but the cc305 is 220/230 .510/.510. The cc305 makes a pretty noticable difference with stock tune. I had 3.73's and a 2800 stall before installing mine though... so I guess that may be your problem.

You might be making the horsepower, but the gears you have are putting too much a load on the cam at low RPMS, and its not going to pull nearly as strong under a big load. Get some gears, or a stall, preferably both.

Re: I know I need the tune, BUT.....

Thanks for eveyones reply. My prob happen to be FLP TL's. It is really hard to put #5 wire on. It came off hit the header and melted a bit. Shorted out #5. Fixed that now I gained 15HP on the stock tune. Should be what I am looking for when I put the tune in.

Thanks!
