I have read I can't put a different timing chain on my car is that right?

Since i don't have the vent opti if i remember right thats why i can not have a diff chain than stock correct me if i'm wrong. Also would a new stock chain be alright with a XE cam like 224/230 or maybe a little more aggressive

A double roller won't clear the water pump unless you get an electric one. An LT4 extreme duty will go in with no modification.

So the LT4 extreme duty chain is the way to go?? How good are they? and where can i get one at?

You basically have 2 options-

1)Buy the LT4 extreme duty~$300

2)buy an electric water pump~$200 And you can use a SBC timing set~$100

I decided to go with option 2 on mine, It comes out pretty close money wise...but the electric pump will free up a few HP.

Are you sure the LT4 setup works with a spline driven opti? I don't think so.

You would also have to change the front cover and cam with longer dowel

speed76demon 08-18-2003 07:14 PM

the front cover of what?? and what do u mean longer dowel??

To use the LT4 chain you have to have a vented opti-I used a new stock chain with a CC306 and didn't have any problems-the 93-94s had a shorter cam dowel than the 95+

You can't run a double roller timing set on a 94 without changing your cam to the one with the big hole in the center and longer dowel to the 95 and newer opti you will also need. The front cover on the motor (You know the one thats covers the timing chain & gears) also has to be changed to the 95 and newer model because it has more clearance on the inside. The Opti is driven with the longer dowel (no Spline). Believe me I tried to find a double roller set up for a 94Z for my 385, There isn't one.

Doing a cam seems like a huge pain since i have a 94 i just might go with 1.6rr's and be done with it

Just buy a new stock replacement set for your 94. It will be fine.
