i have got stock heads and need to know
i have a stock set of heads that i plan to have proffesionaly ported and polished to match my intake. but i was wondering if i should go with 1.5 rockers and larger valves or with 1.6 rockers and keep stock valve size. also what would be a good cam for each set up if the car is just a weekend car and not an every day car. and last just how large can you go on valve size on 1997 lt1 heads.
ok.. here we go...
1.5 rockers..
Depends what cam you go with. Don't upgrade to 1.6 rockers and use stock valve springs, the stock ones arn't really good enough for 1.5 rockers
Valve sizes..
The bigger the better, but the new valves will need head work to make them fit. stock sizes are 1.94 intake and 1.5 exhuast, I THINK u can go 2.00 and 1.6 .. u might be able to go bigger though. Bigger is better!!
Good cam..
This is tricky.. depends how much $ u wanna spend... but a really good cheap Daily driver cam is the LT4 hotcam. You'll need the cam of course.. along with 1.6 rockers, LT4 valve springs, keys & retainers (u can reuse stock ones though).. and it wouldn't hurt to get a new timing chain and gear.

You can go bigger than 2.00/1.60 but it is said you won't gain much more flow, so I'd stick with 2.00/1.60. FWIW, I'd do both 1.6 rockers and the bigger valves, and get a good valvespring on there regardless of what you end up doing.
Bigger is not better, first you need to know what you want to do with the car...when and where how often....then go from there with the knowledge of an experienced pro.
without doing that you will end up broke very quick with a slow car and lost intrest
