I HAVE to disable VATS by tomorrow.
Hey guys, my car has been sitting in a parking garage on the military base I'm stationed on. I've had no keys for it for about 3 months now. Well, today the MP's just told me it has to be moved off base by tomorrow. So I went and got keys made at the dealership, they go in fine and turn the ignition but my security light comes on. I waited awhile tried again and same thing. It doesn't make sense that the ignition would be fie but the vats was changed. I need to know how to disable the vats so that I can move the car by tomorrow. Please help me guys. Its my 93 V6 camaro....Thanks a lot!
I don't have any info on my site about disabling the VATS, but I pretty sure Brent does. I have info on finding the value of the pellet in the key.
Sounds like the keys you had made have the wrong resistor pellet value. I guess you are saying that it won't start?
The PassKey box in your car cannot change, once it is programmed, so I am sure it is the key.
Bypassing requires that you know the correct value of the pellet to substitute a resistor. Your problems seems to be the value is wrong, so you don't know what the correct value is.
I was wondering whatever happened with your key situation.

yes I am the procrastinator of the century. i do believe that if I look hard enough it will say that as my middle name on my birth certificate
. The key definitely is cut correctly, and it works beautifully but the darn VATS kicks in and says wrong answer...try again
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction again shoebox. As Always, I'm much appreciative!
. I'll let you know weither I end up in the brig or not
over the car being "illegally" parked. Like its really hurting anyone or anything. Catcha later!

find resistance of your key with a multimeter, put a combo of resistors in series and parallel to acheive almost the same ohm resistance and plug it into the little connector coming from the ign switch. you will have to pull the panel below the steering wheel. the connector to plug it in is not hard to find.

The dealer will have a tool to read the PassKey module and perhaps a good locksmith would too.
The only other solution I can think of would be to get resistors of all the 15 possible values and try them in the connector mentioned above until one works.
its not my 94 z its my 93 v6...I wish I had LT1 edit and the right cable for my connector, but thats not possible by tomorrow...thanks for the post though, I still haven't really found a good diagrahm to show how to bypass this, if someone could provide me with that, that would be great. How do I find the wires and know which ones to splice into. As far as the resistance values...how do I find them in the store. Say if I went to Radio Shack, do I just tell them this is what I need or is there more to it. I know there's color codes on the resistors. Any more help would be great, thanks...
Well, guys I did it thanks to all of your help!
I first went back to the dealership to see if they may have "accidentally" messed up, they did and had given me a #13 chip instead of a #3.
So, with hopes all high I went back to try it, turn the key and nothing! I was pissed.
..needless to say. So off to rat shack. I get there and ask the manager where the resistors are and he says "what's a resistor". I gathered my thoughts and decided not to slug him after the day I was starting to have and explained to him what they look like. He lead me over to a section that looked like it hadn't been stocked since Tandy Corp. days (Radio Shacks original owner). I felt like I was at a swap meet. I just grabbed a few resistors in hopes of being able to daisy chain them together and make something. I get home and begin "the task". The resistors that I got were't really organized to well, and some didn't have labels so I was stabbing in the dark. The first thing I noticed is that my wires had a tag around them with some other wires that said "Mess with me and u's gon blow up the airbag" (Roughly translated of course). It took some nerve to pull those wires apart, but I did. After about 2 hours of messing with the dirn thing I said fudge it, and went upstairs for awhile to cool my temper down. I took my supplies with me and made a few "chains" while I was watching TV. I went back down tried two of them with no luck and... on the 3rd night there was spark
...She fired right up and lifted a huge burden off my shoulders. It really was a great feeling! Anyway, thanks again guys....Couldn't have done it without you. And as always...I Love You CZ28.com! Later.....

Glad to hear it worked. I was wondering what had happened with this thread and apparently it turned out just grand. I must wonder however, do you know what the actual resistor value was? Maybe you can go to the dealer to make them give you the right key, although doesn't matter much NOW...
