i hate SES lights (please help)

I have three trouble codes that i don't know what they mean. Can anyone help me out?

p1641 - fuel pump primary circuit failure

p1642 - fuel pump monitor circuit high/low input/ can link circuit

p0412 - malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for switching valve "A" of the secondary air injection system

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Aron

You need to check the first two of those codes again. They are fan codes. Maybe you have a manual fan switch that is setting them off.

The other is the AIR pump. Check the fuse.

Talking

thanks shoebox.

It is because of a fan switch. Is there anyway to keep it from setting off the SES light?

What exactly does the air pump do?

Thanks again shoebox,
Aron

What year is your car?

The air pump could have went bad, and GM might have a recall on it. My 97 Formula set off the exact same 3 codes, and I noticed the air pump recall hadn't been done so I took to them, and it fixed the problem, for FREE. Also, check fuse #6 under the hood. It's most likely blown. Mine was blown, and replacing it caused it to blow again immediately.

Is your fans kicking on like normal when it heats up and when the A/C is on? Mine weren't, and btw I don't have the manual fan switch.

Hope that helps.

It's a 1996 formula. I haven't had the chance to check the fuse. But what does the Air Pump do? No my fans were not kicking on and it was getting hot as hell. So i wired the fans up.

Thanks,
Aron

Call a dealer and ask them what recalls have been performed on your car and what recalls still need to be performed.

The air pump is basic smog crap that you can't take out without throwing a code. Hopefully the dealer will fix it for free. And this is the only time I would say goto a dealer.

You need the resistors in this diagram wired in. That will keep the SES off.

The AIR pump supplies extra air to the cats during cold/cool engine starts to help the cats warm up and also lower emissions. It runs for a maximum of 3 minutes after start-up. The pump is prone to water contamination and internal corrosion. That causes the unit to short out and blow the fuse.
