I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
I have been trying to get my car to run for the last four months but no luck. I am so sick of messing with the darn RR's so I am putting the stock rockers back on. I have searched on how to adjust the stock rockers but no luck.
So, how do you install/adjust the stock rockers?
Thanks for the help.

Re: I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
Adjust to Zero lash, then preload with 1/2 to 3/4 turn. I think I usually do just a 1/2 turn to preload it and its been working so far with good results. Course if you have the new comp r rockers I've seen where those are a little different.

Re: I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
It does not matter what rockers you put on there, you still will have to adjust them. They all adjust basically the same way.
A search should have come up with something. It's almost discussed every other day.

Re: I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
All hydraulic lifters use basically the same method for adjustment. Some lifters require more/less preload. I bought stock replacement lifters when I put the cam in and the car runs the best with only a 1/4 turn past 0 lash. I have heard of people running comp R's with 0 to 1/4 turn past 0 lash.
Re: I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
I like letting the car idle and to the feel zero lash in action. You can really only do that with rockers that have poly locks or non locking nuts. Then turn the car off and turn them however you like your rockers (for me 1/8 turn)
Re: I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
My rockers went on fine and adjusted nicely... using the info Shoe box provides on his site. unsure of what rockers your using but with the Poly's it was perfect as soon as the stud nut bottomed out... then you just lock the poly nut in and give the complete assembly a final 1/4 turn... and your done... My Promags are quiet as all hell. Even calmer than stock... which I think were severly out of whack. But yeah... take your time and get it right. I think stockers are harder to adjust than rollers. The TDC method is the way to go.
Re: I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
Thanks for all the help guys.
I have Comp Pro Mags and Comp R lifters. The first time that I adjusted them I bent a pushrod badly and two of the rockers actually fell off! I don't know how I messed it up so bad but I did. I have since used all the methods on Shoebox's website and every time I finish the car still runs like crap. How do I know if it is bad adjustment or if I screwed something up?
I was under the impression that you just torqued stock rockers down that is why I was wondering. Should I take this to a qualified mechanic and let them go at it? I am just too frustrated to mess with it anymore and I miss driving the car terribly.
Thanks again for all your help!

Re: I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
based on your previous results, i would suggest taking it to a mechanic or finding somebody with more knowledge to come over and help you
sounds to me like you are probably adjusting the rockers without making sure the lifters are on the base circle?

Re: I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
I just did my RRs and they're still loud and loose.
I originally used the shoebox method, but they were ALL really loud and really loose after starting the car..
I've since continually tightened them slightly more and more and I think I have it down to about one loud one left.. But it seems like im tightening still way more than what shoebox stated...
Anyone know whats up with this?

There are numerous methods listed on my site. Any of them will work if done correctly.
Re: I hate RR's! How to adjust stock rockers?
I understand the term "zero lash" meaning there is no slack between the lifter, pushrod, and rocker but I am not really understanding what it means when the lifter bleeds down. Could someone please explain that to me?
