I had a great conversation about cam theory, valve train, etc.
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=388877
I had asked in the above link about cams choices generally between a cc503 and cc306. It had been mentioned that Bret Bauer would do me right. I have heard great things about him prior to the mention of his name.
So anyway I shoot him a email and I got a reply this morning and that I could call him and talk about the cam.
I actually had a day off from my 2nd job (yes you need 2 to afford this hobby). So I got to calling him.
We talked about what he does for cams and the theroy behind high ramping cams. Also we talked about cam choice and almost every off the shelf cam, can be made better, especially with emissions involved.
I sent him my flow bench sheets for my ported, stock valve, lt1 castings and talked about putting bigger ones in and I need to get in touch with Lloyd Elliot.
Bret also told me about some great lifters that I can use down the road that are better than Comp R's.
One thing I did not know is Spring Deteriation and even though i got 24k on the motor, the springs may have degraded alot. I had a issue with a dropped valve back a couple of winters ago, so now i will switch those out too.
I may pay a little more, but i have a great feeling about this and i think it will work out.

Re: I had a great conversation about cam theory, valve train, etc.
I have had many conversations with him myself. I think he's great with customer service and coming up with answers. in all seriousness, i've sent him over 70 emails in the past 3 months and he has replied to at least 67 of them. even when the questions may not have been to ligit for the situation, he was always there to answer. I was going to do a lloyd elliot package, but he didn't seem to be too interested in my business. no offense to him, he could have been busy or what not. so i went with a bret cam. I can't give any compliments on it yet, as the car is struggling to run right, but i think i can safely say I'm happy with the cam he made, and even happier with the input i've recieved from him in the past 3 months.

Yea, he is a pretty stand up guy from the 1st conversation I had with him. Oh the lifter is called Morel and it can be searched on here and http://www.ls1tech.com for those want to know.
As for heads, If i can get them sent out and put the proper size valves, and put the springs that Bret prefers on it, then ill be all set for a while.

I hate to sound like a 3rd grader, but I told you so!
No seriously he's a cool guy to talk to and has some sweet cam designs.

Re: I had a great conversation about cam theory, valve train, etc.
I just got an email from Lloyd Elliot about my ported LT1 castings. He said that he charges the same regardless of how much work is done to them. He told me to sell my stock set for $$$ and buy a set of his to offset the cost.
Anyone running Trick FLow Heads?? Do they use LT1 or LT4 intakes? He mentioned either TFS or LT4 castings.... so we will see.

Re: I had a great conversation about cam theory, valve train, etc.
trickflows are for lt1 intakes. trickflows seem like a good boost head. they have bigger chambers. i wouldn't use them on a NA head and cam package. you can buy lloyds, butr u will only get 175-200 for your stockers.
Re: I had a great conversation about cam theory, valve train, etc.
well its n/a with a 200 shot down the road. In a couple years I may pull the block and put 5.7" rods ( i currently got 6") and blower pistons (J/E's vs. the SRP that I have). I really dont want to do heads again. This may become a boost motor.....
As for my crrent heads, i can get what I want. It is like selling a car, just gotta find the right *** for the seat. id like 1000, but if i got 800 id be happy. But again finding the right person.

Re: I had a great conversation about cam theory, valve train, etc.
I run the TFS heads with a LT4 intake since you can raise the port enough to do them.
Thanks for the call yesterday, even if I was dodging big rigs thru Kentucky at 90mph.

http://www.fbody.com/timeslips/member.cgi?id=560 its ok, here is the link to my car. Ignore the timeslip cus i did that last year and this year i but the 12 bolt in and all my BMR but with 2 jobs, I cant get time to get to the track...... uuuugggghhh
Re: I had a great conversation about cam theory, valve train, etc.
hahah yea, im in that process now. I just got done talking to Lloyd, I think im going to go with the TFS heads with bret's spring pkg. as well as LT4 intake. I am looking at some serious numbers.
Right from his last email he said this.....
The TFS heads will end up with a 217 cc intake port and flow about 295/220 cfm with awesome low and mid lift #'s with some 2.08/1.625 valves.
http://www.trickflow.com/product/che...t1_airflow.asp and this is what TFS do out of the box for flow
I have more pics on the car, but im not at home with the links. I will post them here and PM them to you later.
