I dont think my DLC works OBD1

I have tried 2 scanners and they dont read the car? is there a way i can test it to see if it works? all fuses are good and also i did the fan test on the dlc port and it turned on my fans... Could it be the scanner? I dont know the brand the scanner was, it was from a local parts store called shucks. and the other one was the same store out of town. any help would be appreciated thanks!

The scanner I have for my 94 requires that I hook it up to the lighter or other 12V source. It could be that the scanners you tried need that as well. The fact that you fans turned on is an indication that the DLC is working as intended...

well the scanner powers on and it tells me to enter the 8th digit and then it pops up an error message saying it could not communicate with the dlc port?
