i brought my car into a (what i thought) very ruputable (expensive) but reputable.. shop.
i get an APPOINTMENT a MONTH ahead of time... i tell them over the phone several times JUST TO MAKE SURE
that they know what i want fixxed... the light housing assembly and everything it comes with in that area (the bars that hold it up the bracket that attaches it to the cover(the outside of the car- the painted part) the outside cover itself... EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE MOTOR then i wanted them to replace and PAINT the cover of the headlight and replace the "formula" insignia
it was very important that i get the car back in 2 days so i go in there a week ahead of time AFTER TALKING TO THEM ON THE PHONE to MAKE sure thats all the time it was gonna take.
right... so i drop it off the night before the day they are to start working on it.. with the keys my appointment card and a DETAILED LETTER STATING EVERYTHING I WANTED DONE and for all this there was an understanded price of about 300 dollars..
so i call a few hours being closing on the second day to make sure i can come pick it up... i get some chick who says "ummm jim isn't here right now i'll have him call you back, whats your number... i tell them and shes like "ok"
2 AND A HALF HOURS LATER 20 minutes from when they close i call again.. "uhhh jim can't come to the phone right now i'll have him call you back. (im thinking, this is some bullsh!t run-around- INEED MY CAR so the third day..... 1pm i call again... "Jim is not here right now would you like me to call him back?" SAME chick everytime... first off who the hell is jim? and does he even exist??!?!... i get a call from her 3 hours later saying jim is on the phone but she told him to call me back... THEY DIDN'T TOUCH THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS
4th day... im ready to run up on someones lawn with guns drawn... i decide that these people are f!cking me over so i make one last call... "hey im jared with the green firbird formula, is it ready to go... her.. "hi jared, see the car is taking A LITTLE longer than anticipated becuase we had to order some parts...and the car would "probably be done tomarrow" NO **** YOU HAD TO ORDER PARTS... THATS WHY I MADE THE APPOINTMENT ARRRGHH!!! ( i just said fine and bye)
i decide this is crap and im going to get my car broke, fixxed, in pieces, on fire, WHATEVER i'll put the damn thing on myself... i ride there with my dad THEY ARE WORKING ON MY CAR... HALLEHF!CKINGLOOYA! i give em some lip about whats been going on... they deny they haven't TRIED call me... (i been home sick for 4 days jacka$$) I KNOW you didn't call
and they have a total of maybe 10 minutes of work into the car as i can see it... i say how long... they say "umm an hour?" i say fine i'll be here before closing and we split. im thinking- wow just an hour they must have all thepieces togethor and stuff and the plate painted already inside (they were working on it outside)... I HOPE for the best. get there... guy comes out to show me what they did. NOTHING BASICALLY they replaced the headlight itself... and the brackets that hold it to the plate (when i say the plate i mean the outside panel of the car that folds up) THATS IT... no new plate...no paint... NOT EVEN THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY they didn't even replace the pastic cover that goes around the side of the light (so that you don't see nothing but screws and assembly **** thats holding the light to the plate... BUT I CAN not only that... but they charged me a half hour labor to AIM the light THAT IS CURRANTLY POINTING AT THE GOD*AMN GROUND
and unfortunatly because of stupidity... being to work an hour later... some double talk and anger adrenaline i signed off on the receipt before getting a good inspection... 305 dollars is not a lot of money to most people but its a week and a half of working every day for me... and right now i feel like killing something... thank you for letting me vent.

 

go back and bitch....quit being a nice guy and go get your money back or keep bringing it back till it's right!!!!!!!!

 

Sadly, sounds pretty standard. Never expect your car back when you want it.

 

That really sucks, man. I would call the owner, and talk to him. Assuming you haven't already.

 

wasn't the original estimate $300 for a complete job. Why did you pay $305 for a half a$$, half done job. I think you need to go see Judge Judy man, thats some shady stuff, and I wouldn't stand for it. Unfortunately the only for sure place that you can rely on is maybe the dealer, but then you're gonna be working two weeks for a one week costing job. Sorry for the B.S. you're putting up with.

 

Just b!tch, b!tch, b!tch. Eventually someone is going to get tired of seeing you and take care of it somehow. I've done the same thing but unfortunatly I paid alot more for the jacked up half a$$ed transmition rebuild on my Talon about a year ago. At least the car was totaled before I had to sue those idiots.

If you don't get any results after some serious complaints, find someone who can have a laywer call them and threaten them.

 

Yep. I was quoted 2 weeks to paint my car hugger orange, it ended up being 4 1/2 months, and it wasn't even exactly hugger orange

 

LOW TRAC, i had the same thing with my 95 tsi awd.. brought it in for a clutch.. they said 3-4 days.. then they say it needs a front half transmission case.. then new sycros, then new slave cylinder.. so i go to pick the car up 2 weeks later when they say its finaly done.. get there.. sorry its not done yet.. we need a special tool to blead the hydrolics.. so i pay for it cause they were going to finish it up that nite and just park it ouside.. I finally got the car back 2 weeks after that with two both passanger side windows broke out, my guages stolen, and my interior ruined from the grease form the hill jack mechanics.. So about a month.. they hit my for $900 left me with the bill for $425 for new windeows.. and come to find out they didn't even replace the transmission case they charged me $350 for.. screw shops, they are all out to get you. I found out never pay in advance and never belive them when they give you a number of days for completion.. Sorry about the long post just had to vent.

 

These are all reasons why I do all of my work myself. At least if it's wrong it's my own fault, and I didn't pay out the A$$ to have someone else screw up my car. I reserve that right for myself.

 

I now do all of my own work.. I didn't have the knowledge to change a clutch in an awd talon though.. i still don't for that matter.. I can do anything to an f-body though.

do NOT let these mother f*ckers get away with this...I took my car to get my tires rotated a few weeks ago, he told me 30 mins, so I said cool, I'll check out these shops that are nearby. I go back 45 mins later, just to make sure, and my car hasn't been touched. I go inside, I was raised by a mother who doesn't take sh*t from anyone so of course i'm that way as well, and start giving the guy at the desk mad attitude as if it were his fault. He gets the 'manager' and I unload. I'm cussing and gesturing and INDIRECTLY threatning to do something to the shop w/ some friends (i.e. egging the F*CK OUT OF IT).

It was the next car taken care of, at a discounted price, with a sincere apology.

seriously, if they'd just tell you how long its gonna be "for real" I don't think it would be half as bad. If I owned a shop, I'd overshoot, then have the cutomer praise me for how fast it was done. Its all about customer service and nowadays every business seems to lack it.

BTW, I try to do as much as I can by myself too, I understand the painting part, but you always seem to save a ton of money when you do it yourself. Plus you'll know how to do it again in the future.

Second, while some people do rant here I typically try to make sure there is at least a purpose in the rant which ends up having some technical value.
