i cant get traction, and i'm stock! Help!

Planning on taking my '97 Z to the track for the first time this weekend, so as of late i've been trying to pull my car out without spinning and i just cant do it! I turn the TC off cause i just cant hit the gas while that is on...messes with me too much..lol. I try to torque it up right until the back tires almost start spinning and then just let off the brake real quick and punch it, but it'll eat the back wheels completely off till i hit 2nd.My car is an A4 with stock 3.23 gears. Everything is factory. No mods except exhaust. Anyone got any pointers on how i can get traction?

You should get some drag radials like Nitto 555's and some new control arms and relocation brackets. Practice makes perfect so just keep at it and you will improve with time.

Try not torqueing it up. Just slap the throttle open from an idle.

cool, thanks for the replies guys. i'm gonna try and drop my tire pressure and just punch it from an open idle. i dont have time to order Drag Radials...i'm going this weekend... but if i cant catch traction, i guess thats the next items on my list to buy.

dude if you punch from a dead dig you will blow the tires off.

Mine will turn me in the other direction if I nail it from idle.

I need tires too

My buds all told me to stall up as much as I can then let off the brake and let it roll out a little THEN mash the pedal.

works 4 me

[edit] BTW whats your times and stuff? Jus curious...[/edit]

Learn how to drive, maybe that will help. Launching does not involve revving it up and dropping it, that sounds more like you want the tires to break loose. Don't give it 100% throttle right off the line. Feather it until you get traction then nail it. If you nail it and keep flooring it after you have broken loose how did you expect to get traction Just use a little logic man and go practice launching.

The Manuf. suggests 30-32.5 PSI for the tires, they shouldn't be higher then that. The maximum allowable tire pressure written on the tire is NOT the psi to fill it up by!

Cool

I guess it depends on the tire's recomended max tire pressure on the side of the tire.Mine are 44lbs max.But I run 36 to 38 in the fronts, lower in the back,or else it's spin city for me.Hope this helps.

run the factory tire pressure. on my doorjams, it says the front and rear should be set at 35 psi. if you drop the air pressure with regular tires, you will spin bad. most people think that lower tire pressure will make you hook better, but in fact your hurting the traction. the tire pressure with slicks is a different story though.

Add pressure to the fronts, drop the pressure in the rears. Launch off idle. If you spin drop the pressure some more. Only make one change at a time or you will not be able to accurately quantify what works and what doesn't.

FYI: I launch off idle and it works fine for me. Just go and have a good time. Order some drag radials for next week.
