welcome

quick rundown

brent94Z has al the how tos and appearance guides you'll ever want

shoebox has pics of everything under the hood and part numbers

I'm worthless arond here

our cars really like cold air intakes, catbacks HEADERS, and sub frame connectors.

our intake manifold is great

snake oil (worthless mods, well for near stock cars anyway)
tb air foil, hypertech (use www.pcmforless.com), bigger injectors, and a few more i probobly missed.

LT1 motor is a great bottom end
the opti spark sucks
who ever designed it should go fist themselves.

some side notes-
when buying yor car -
be VERY VERY VERY cautious of misfires and intake manfiold leaks and weak power window motors.

easy things to upgrade and have fun with-
hood (if its damaged)
brakes (LS1 upgrade for like $250)
and some other stuff other people will fill in

use these as levy points to bring the price down.

the perfect LT1 has a new opti, pw motors, dented hood, cracked exhaust manifold, and needs new rotors, pads and calipers.

it shold be very cheap and fun to fix. you can get better aftermarket parts for less than OEM on these parts

When buying a a new LT1 look for:

Coolant seepage around the waterpump.

Oil at the back of the intake manifold.

Rear pinion seal leaks or stains on the rear diff.

and oil under the tranny from the rear main seal.

Welcome to the lt1 crowd.... As mentioned by trey, check on members web pages for upgrades and installs, like www.ws6.com and use the search function, before asking.... No question is stupid, its prob been asked a million times....

DO SEARCHES You will find so much info in the archives, on any thing from trans mounts, to cold airs, to cat backs. Thats my best advice, I swear man, so much info is in those archives, you can learn just as much as any body on this board by searching stuff. Oh yes, this one last thing is very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very Important NEVER EVER MAKE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE A LS1 VS LT1 POST

YOU WILL BE BANNED, SHUNED AND FORCED IN TO EXILE UNTO CLUBSI.COM

Most of all good luck and enjoy the car!

A couple of extra notes.

93 cars were speed density and the program can be upgraded by a chip on the computer

94-95 cars have ODB1 compliant computers and more easily except mods.

95 + cars have the vented opti-spark and thus have less opti-crap problems.

96-97 cars are ODB2 and have two catalytic converters and thus have 10 more HP from the factory, but the computer is more difficult to program.

If I were in the market and knowing what I know now.... I would look very hard for a nice 95 model.

i know camaros are going for cheaper but how much should i pay for about a 95 transam T-top m6 miles:50k-90k?

also how many miles are lt1's good for i know the 3.4 motors last forever but the 3.8's while good tend not to last as long

Run a compression test!! Its a PITA, but you won't have to worry about having the car sidelined for damn near eternity like I did. Mine was fixed TODAY after sitting since LAST April. THe guy changed the oil right before I test drove it so there was no sign of a blown head gasket but the gasket was blown. So go through the trouble of getting a compression test.

The motors them selves will last a while, 200-250K with regular service, but who knows, some thimes you get a motor with a weak spot in it and it'll go out at 150K miles. But for the most, LT1s seem to run hard and will last as long as you take good care of it.

Thanks guys this seems to be a awsome community i been around a while with the v6 on this board but never visited here

it is funny you should say a white trans- am cause tha is what i am looking for thats what made me want to stop my project i mean i was forged pistons and a oil pump away from being done

i will settle for nothing less then a white trans am, t tops, m6, i want leather but will deal with it if i find one with all the others trans ams are not easy to come by at all i was checking the local car club and the majority are either camaro or Ws6's
