Hypertech III dyno tuning?
The only shop that does dyno tuning in my area does not have the software to tune LT1 cars. The guy at the shop told me to go get a hypertech and he would be able to tune my car. Does the HPP3 have the ability to tune cars acurately enough to use during dyno tuning?
Also, I've heard that the HPP3 can only be used on one car. It "reads" the computer on the car it is installed in and then is useless in other cars. Is this true? The ad for sale says "HPP3 for sale. For use on GM 5.7L 1996-2000." He wants $250.
What do you guys think? Thanks.

Re: Hypertech III dyno tuning?
If you are serious enough to go to a dyno shop to have your car tuned, don't settle for a hypertech; find another dyno shop that can do the LT1s.
Hypertech handhelds aren't serious tuning aids. They are for stock engines that do not have major modifications and are running without issues.
Used Hypertech power programmers can readily be had for as little as $100. I got one for $80. You must be certain the hypertech is for your engine and year. It must have the vin unlocked or it will be useless. In other words, a used hypertech must not be keyed to another car. The previous programming must be removed for it to work on a different car with a different vin.
One more thing. If you do buy a HPP, know that contacting Hypertech's support will be a waste of time. I know from personal experience that their answers to questions will be vague, meaningless and frustrating.
