Question hypertec thermostats 180 or 160

I am going to install a hypertec programer and want to know if there is any problems using a 160 degree thermostat or if a 180 degree is the way to go as I have been told the 160 causes the car to stay in cold loop and runs rich ?
any opinions would be great

I would vote for the 160 stat. My car runs great with it and no problems at all. I'm pretty sure that your car comes out of closed loop around 150. So with the 160 stat you would have no problems. With my reprogramming my car sits at about 170 with that stat. Runs nice and cool!

160 during warm weather & 180 for winter. But then that's my setup.

My vote is for 160. It won't cause open loop problems as far as I know, almost everybody uses a 160.

Good Idea. How much heating difference do you see from doing a seasonal change. I know the heat was slow to warm up in my car this winter with the 160.

my vote goes for the 160 but I have a quick question. Does selecting the 160 setting on the HPP make a diff. I have it selected, j/w!

I have Jets Power Control Modual Stage II and it states 160 therom. I thought Hypertechs was the same when you use it to? Any body ever hear of the Power modual Venom thats out they say you can use it with other chips and they say its a 25% increase in HP.

I know this may sound stupid but can i put a 160 stat in my car if i DONT have any tuning, chip, programming, etc... done to my car. Would it even make a difference if you dont have a tuning device or would it not be safe to do????

To run a 160 you need to reprogram the fans at the PCM, otherwise they will run all the time & your temp will still be high.
With a hypertech you can do this easily.

The 160 is weak on heat during the cold months so I switch to 180 even though I hardly drive it then.

I use the hypertech 160. You DONT have to reprogram the PCM. I have stock fan settings. Just install the t-stat and go. Even if you lowered the fan operating temp to say the 195-205 area, under normal driving conditions, temps wont get that high anyway.

I put the 160 in my car last weekend and have the HPP3 to reprogram it. I have not reprogrammed it yet but there was an immediate noticeable difference in the temp with the new stat in. So as stated above, no you dont have to reprogram it.
