Hp ratings on cranks...

Alright, I was reading in summits catalog and was looking at a few cast cranks and seen it noted ratings may increase or degrease with other components.. A few other people say 500hp on a cast crank is 25% under rated from the company? I want to build a 383 w/ some Le3 heads im trying to get.. Would it be alright to run a cast crank, forged rods and pistons and go over 500 hp for a street car? Small amount of nitrous may be used too.. Dont have the money to build a all forged 383..

Ok you need to look at a few things then...

HP is one thing but RPM and the mass of the parts you hang on the crank is more important. Along with what holds the crank in the block.

I recently did a cast crank 355 that should live forever to 7000rpm, and be over 500hp. People wonder how..... just have to do some physics to figure out how light of parts you need at the higher piston g's to load the crank the same amount as stock. Plus you need to support the crank in the block well with 4 bolt main caps.

If you are going to a stroker, 4 bolt mains, lower RPM and making sure the parts are light will help a bunch.

If you don't have the money for all forged parts, then you don't have the money to put the hose on the motor and spray the **** out of it. SO DON'T! If you stay NA with decent I Beam rods, a cast crank and stud the mains you will be fine. If you put a shot on it, it will break at some point.
