Howards Cams...

Anyone have any experiences with them?

I'm looking at their 226/234 cam for a 383 I'm building.

Are they cutting edge, too old school, no one knows? I searched it, but couldn't find anything about them.

(Yes, this probably belongs in the thirdgen tech section, but there's very little action there that I can see and as I have a Stealth Ram intake, I figured I could translate from what you guys say!)

Thanks,

They are failry local to me, I have bought a few other things from Competition Products under the same roof.

I talked to them about a cam years ago and at that time their ideas were rather antiquated.

I think their stuff would be fine but certainly not cutting edge, if memory serves their prices are low, if they were on the cutting edge of valvetrain tech they would need to charge more to pay for R&D.

If just looking for reasonably priced decent parts then go for it.

Just curious. I like Comp...but have been reading so much about the XE and XFI cams that my head is spinning. Trying to decide what Cam I want to go for for my 383 and thought they sounded different enough to be worth a try...but I fully expected to be told their designs were antiquated.

Any other opinions?

From what I've heard they are pretty oldschool but their stuff is excellent quality. I am running their springs on my afr heads as Lloyd recc'd them for his cam. The springs I got were very good quality and I haven't had any issues.

Btw - just get a custom grind from Lloyd as he can get you setup with the best for your setup.

I have a cam designed by the guy who designed the Voodoo line for Lunati. Seems to be a great line of sticks. The guys on the Chevelle board swear by them, although I don't know anyone with an LT1 running one...
