How wet can the opti get?
I have heard from some people that a vented opti can get wet, dry out, and still be ok, and the unvented cant...Is this true? Mine didnt get wet but I was wondering how some people can powerwash their engine, while others do a cam install, get a little water on it from the WP, and the opti is toast.
What technically is the differnce between the vented and unvented versions? What was the reason for the change?

I think you and I have vented since were 96-97 but I am curious to this myself. I received a SES light from going through an automatic car wash and it didn't even do the undercarriage wash option, it started blinking then went solid. I had it cleared the next day and it's fine, runs fine but I was told they are very sensitive still even with the vent. As for ruining it I wish I knew because they are about 400-500 bucks from GM...that's with the cap/rotor which is the only way they will sell it....as a set...
Just from my personal experience, my waterpump one day decided it would pee (well actually a full fledged ****) out the weep hole all over my opti. I never noticed a drivabilty problem except for my low coolant light came on and I was losing my power steering (wet belt was slipping) I changed the water pump and I still have no problems with my opti acting screwy, and it got soaked when I first discovered the leak. And as you can see from my sig, I have a non vented opti.
My waterpump decided to take a leak last week. It did get the opti wet and while I was changing out the waterpump I got my opti pretty wet. No problems here. I have the vented opti as well.
