How to troubleshoot engine "Loading Up"?
I should first mention, I just finished a head/cam/top end rebuild. It ran fine before teardown, but I'm not very experienced at this so anything could be the problem...
But, after researching it seems pretty obvious, my car is loading up. It runs great at first, starts to run bad after a couple minutes, the Brake and LowTrac lights start coming on/off, then it runs really rough (won't even run at low RPM) and the air bag light comes on too.
If I try to restart it when it's started running really bad it acts like compression is 20:1 and won't even turn over. But if I let it sit a while and it runs fine again. I'm also "making oil" so I'm assuming the fuel leaks past the rings slowly to cause that?
Does that sound right?
If so, where do I start troubleshooting? I checked with a blinking light tool against the wires that all cyl were firing. The injectors, plugs, wires, coil, and fuel pump are all new with the top-end build I just finished. Everything else is original/stock (opti, FPR, etc).
Without just buying a new opti and replacing it, is there anything else I can do to determine which cyl (or all?) are loading up? Is there anything I can do with OBD1 monitoring that would help (I have the cable)?
