How thich or thin are the impala head gaskets?
How thich or thin are the impala head gaskets?
What is the measurement for the impala head gaskets? Sorry, I did a search but came up with 1,000 arguements on why or why not to use them and like 2-3 different measurements.
Re: How thich or thin are the impala head gaskets?
I will be running the mr gaskets. I just need to know what gasket is thinner. What compression ratio will i have if i use the mr gasket and my heads milled .010"? Would it be over 11:1?
Re: How thich or thin are the impala head gaskets?
the Impala is .029, the Mr Gasket is .026. Mr G is a 4.100 bore, not sure what the diameter is on the Implala gasket to figure out how its compressed volume compares to the Mr G.

My calculated compression is 11.06:1 with the Impala head gaskets (.029" compressed thickness). I have had them on for 4 months now with no problems. The main argument for not using these is that the Impala HG's are for iron/iron contact instead of iron/aluminum. This change in heating and expansion qualities is why people say don't go with the Impala gasket. However, my thoughts on this are that the head is torqued down and will MINIMALLY expand quicker. The gasket will be compressed also, so it's not going to move anywhere or give out. I also believe that the Mr. Gasket PN is the same for both Imapla and Camaro/Firebird Lt1's, so that just goes to show that any gasket with appropriate dimensions should be interchangeble.
