How to tell when Posi is on it's way out.

For some reason, I feel that my rear end is going out on me. I think the clutches are worn. The car isn't gripping as well as it should but the tires are fine. Not only that, in my "test" to check it, I'm only getting one line of rubber intermittantly. I'm probably going to pull the diff this weekend to see what's up.

The posi is stock, if I need to rebuild it, what kind should I go with?

SLP sells stock take out units for around $95. The dealer wanted $400+ for it. I paid $100 to get it installed and it works great.

Yep, that's the sign it is going. When I had my 10-bolt, I replaced the posi with an Eaton unit, which is about $370. Worked great until I broke the ring gear, then I stepped up to the 12-bolt.

change the fluid and put in teh GM (and only GM brand) limited slip additive. THis cured my one wheel peel and funky grinding around turns too. It was about 15 bucks including the gear lube and gasket

This sounds like what my rearend is doing. What differential fluid did you use and how many pints would I need?

I'm not seeing the "take off" posi's on the SLP website. Do you have a link for it?

I believe you can test the clutches by lifting one rear wheel and checking the torque it takes to turn the wheel. I'm not sure of the reading you should get though.

My car will one-wheel it now and then depending on conditions, it's not always the same wheel either.
