How to tell what style 4l60e my camaro came with?

I bought a 94 z28 that has some major transmission issues. I took the pan off and it looks like my 94 which should be non PWM had the PWM style valve body from the 95 and up. Did they have some 94 cars that had the 95 transmission in a transition period? How can I tell what my car should have? Could I count the pins on the transmission harness?

Not aware of any transition period. Yes, you could look at the pinout on the electrical connector. It might have had a different trans swapped into it.

http://shbox.com/1/harness_connector_faces.htm use the 4L60E tab at the bottom.

The car has the 12 pin connector so this leads me to believe that when they rebuilt the transmission they either put a 1995 valve body in or they put an entire 95 transmission in. Are the valve bodies interchangeable and if so I can just put the 94 valve body back on when I rebuild it and everything should be back to normal
Edit: I just saw a related forum that answered my question

If they put a 95 in a 94, they had to reprogram the PCM with the 95 program, for the PWM lockup to work. See ***ADDITIONAL INFORMATION*** at the end of post #1.

That’s the thing, I don’t think they did reprogram it since it’s still running the 12 pin connector and the transmission has absolutely no third or 4th after only a hundred or so miles. The casting for the trans is 94 but the valve body alone is 95 and they used the 94 harness and just had the PWM solenoid in there not hooked up. The guy I bought it from said a mechanic at a Honda dealer rebuilt the trans himself and he may not have known about 4l60e’s being pretty exclusive with the years
