Wrap up the rims really good with padding/newspaper. You don't even need to box them. FedEX'll take em with just the metal part wrapped up. I've shipped a bunch of salad shooters with tires around that way.

You can put two rims together as one "package". Set them face-to-face and then run tape around the tire and rim in three or four places to hold them together. Attach the labels to the bands of tape. UPS will take them this way, but may charge you a few dollars extra because they aren't in a box.

i was about to post the same question.

is that $35 per tire?

you guys that joined two together, how much did you pay?

if the person has a business address, shipping from a freight company might be cheaper.

ill never use UPS again.......ill stick to fedex or someone else.

recently mailed a well packaged CD disk changer.
paid extra money for $200 insurance.
arrived damaged to the buyer.
filed claim.
UPS says they need to go inspect and pickup the package from buyer in order to verify cause of damage.
UPS rep picks up package, but removes bubble wrap and leaves it behind.
UPS refuses claim due to "insufficient packaging"

talk about a scam job..........wanna know the funny part.........the buyer is a UPS EMPLOYEE!!!!!.....just wait till he calls in and tells them what they did.

its bad to screw customer........even worse when the customer is your own employee.

1mystfer is right don't go into any of those mom and pop shipping places they have a really big up charge. I work at a UPS Store(used to be called Mail Boxes Etc.), you can go there and they will charge you the exact same rate that you will find at any UPS hub. But i wouldn't let them pack it because they can charge an arm and a leg to do so. I ship off rims and tires quite often for people. A lot of the times it is cheaper if you can put 2 or 3 of the tires and rims in 1 box. Just something to consider.
