How to replace the water pump drive seal?
On my 1997 camaro Z28.
I'm replaceing the OPTI spark seal on the timing cover.
While I'm there I would like to replace the water pump drive seal.
Since I bough it by mistake.
How do you remove it?
I see a small square cut in the top that I could put a small screwdriver in and pry it out.
But I don't want to break the cover.

I have a love hate relationship with aluminum.
I love it till I make a bolt to tight and break it or pry aganst it and crack it.
Thanks,
Chris.

replace the opti seal, and water pump seal. If you have it all apart you might as well do the crankshaft seal too. All are actually pretty easy, and covered many times. Do a search for all the details. Make sure the inner lip of the waterpump seal doesn't roll back over when you install it or you'll have another leak You'd have to pull the balancer hub to do the crank seal, but its not impossible. Just be sure to inspect the hub for any grooves, if it has one then get a 'saver sleeve' for $5.

Re: How to replace the water pump drive seal?
That Water pump drive seal is a bitch. If its not leaking i would leave it alone. Its about damn near impossible to get a new one on and not rip it.
Just leave it
Mine is leaking and when i go to the dealer to buy a new seal im going to buy like 3 or 4 of them just so when i rip the first couple i dont have to go back and forth between the dealership and home.
