Cool

Thats an expensive job. The engine will have to come out to get the oil pan off the engine. Nothing like paying $500-600 to replace a $50 oil pump.

the engine does not have to come out. The pan can come out with the engine mount bolts out and the crank in the right position. The trans will have to come out also...sounds like a good time for a stall

Cool

I'm not sure on the cost, but you basically unbolt the engine mount bolts, jack engine up, remove the pan bolts, change oil pumps. You'll need to take the dust sheild and starter off, along with getting the crank in the proper position. No need to remove the trans or the engine....

For a problem that would require changing oil pumps, might be best to go with a rebuild in some cases.

Why are you changing the pump ?

Wow, your getting ripped. I paid $21.95 for a Melling high Volume from www.summitracing.com and it's produced 60 psi for a couple years now.

Part # MEL-M55HV

I am changing the pump because my oil pressure has dropped from 20 at idle to about 3 psi and its about 20 at driving speed. Its a new motor, 26.5 Miles on it, but i think my mechanic screwed my out of new parts with my old 103 k's mile parts. Has anyone seen a trust worthy mechanic?

Oil pump might not help if he just reused your parts honestly. If the clearances and parts are not up to par, then you won't be long for the engine. If he reused the pump, it may help. If he did, I would have him shot because he is a very half assed engine builder.

If you were close, i'd do it for like $100, but i'm in Kentucky

Are you sure your oil pickup didn't fall off? Common problem; hopefully you or your engine builder tacked it in place. As stated above, you don't need to pull the motor or the tranny. The engine can be supported from the top with an engine hoist, the K member can be dropped, remove the starter and inspection shield. Now there's access to drop the oil pan and correct the issue. Don't know what a shop would charge, my buddy and I did this to replace a leaky oil pan gasket.

I changed my rod and main bearings and oil pump without pulling the engine or transmission. I also didnt use a engine hoist. Just jacked up on the balancer.

HEy Guys Well I was just reading your post. I THink I might be in the SAME Boat. i just got my Motor back as well. REbuilt. ALL that good stuff. I stuck a 224/236 XE Cam in there with new rockers and springs. IM kinda of IFy right now. Cuase when Im doing my roller rockers adjustment. Theres oil coming out of the top end. And slashing on the headers. BUt what scares me is. That my OIL gage. IS reading ZERO. NO pressure what so ever. I hooked up a GAGE to the oil PORT were the sending unit goes ANd it read zero. YET my MOTOR seems to be pumping OIL to the top end of the motor. From my understanding LT1's dont make alot of oil at the top end. I think maybe something is clogged up or something. IF my pump is gone. IM going to also have to BITE the bullet and do this process like above. CYA guys
