how much would a retune be worth?

I was thinking about sending my PCM back to MAdz28 for a retune. The previous owner has it all tuned but since then I have added a torque converter, Transgo, 1.6 RR and supporting valvetrain, and a bunch of suspension stuff.

Also I cant remember clearly but when I was buying the car he was saying he just added something recently that wasnt included in the timeslip he gave me (so I dont know what is on the tune really) I am waiting for Ion to email me the information once the previous owner gives him the okay to do so.

My recent dyno numbers were dissapointing and when he let of the gas there was a little black smoke action going on that made me suspect it was running a bit rich.

How much do you think the retune would be worth to me?

It will help thats for sure.. Plus you will get your shift points set right for the new converter and shift kit you put in.. I'd say do it!

Finding out what is on the tune is a good first step. For all you know, the PCM could be tuned for bigger injectors or a cam.

The car will be more driveable due to shift point and line pressure modifications if you retune the pcm for these mods. However, it won't gain you much power. You can increase the redline and WOT shift points by 200 rpms due to springs and rockers and that can gain you 5 or so hp with the stock cam.

A dynotune (not a mail tune since stock O2s are useless at WOT) can fix a rich condition assuming it's caused by the tune and not by some other problem.

If that is the case, then I would start to suspect it is running rich elsewhere. But you still need to figure out for sure what is on the tune before ruling it out.
