How much and where to cut exhaust?
How much and where to cut exhaust?
I wan't to do something similar to a cut-out but more permanent, and free. I was thinking about just cutting out a piece of the exhaust. I was curious if you guys had any ideas on where to place it, and how long of a section i should remove. I want my car to be loud, I already have a 3in straight pipe in place of the cat. I was thinking somewhere past where the cat used to be, so I don't have exhaust fumes pouring out by the door or something. I was thinking maybe a 2in x 10in section, but thats just an example. I just made a rather large CAI, and figured i might as well free up some exhaust while I'm at it. Oh, and if someone has done this, and it sounded like shiiit, let me know....Thanks,
Yeah, actually I was considering playing around with how a cherry bomb sounded with a turn down...but I think I'll throw the car on the lift sometime this week, or next, and just take a look-see. If i cut out a chunck and it sounds trashy, I'll weld it back in and come up with something else...
I used to just unbolt the muffler on my hooker catback. It was louder and more obnoxious than Rosanne singing the national anthem(years ago buddy). but hey it worked...but now i have a cut out cause It kinda hurt having a muffler and tailpipes repeatedly landing on my chest
I had full stock exhaust and it was too quiet, so I decided to go a cheap route for now until I get my long tubes. Since their was no brackets holding up the pipe right before the axel and their wasn't really enough room for a turndown aka dump, I decided to cut the pipe right after it runs over the axel. I then removed the muffler, 30 lbs which is equal to about 3hp. It is VERY loud, but doesn't sound all that bad. I always have people ask me what type of exhaust I have and I just say "stock...minus the muffler" Hope this helps.
