U joints won't set you back that bad. I busted one in my old ford pickup (65) w/a mildly built 351w swap. It had a two piece shaft, the back shaft fell out, so I had to have a new one made, the old one was all bent up.

I picked up a couple u-joints, got the severe duty ones, don't know if it helps or not, but I think they were about 10-15 bucks a piece. You can change them yourself if you have a jack and stands and some basic hand tools

If you need help post a how to, people on this board are glad to help, one of the best I've found, and I don't even own a f-body (gimme a couple months).

U-joints are a pretty simple swap. If you go to www.advanceautoparts.com then hints and how to's, then restoration, then all the way to the bottom left they have instructions w/pics I believe.

Hope this helps ---J.Bird

You seem adamant that it is not the driveshaft, then ask about u-joints. You do know that the u-joints are pressed onto the driveshaft, right? Maybe you meant not a driveshaft imbalance problem, but if there is a problem with u-joints, it will act similar. If I was going to have someone change the u-joints, I would also be sure it was a shop that could go ahead and balance it. Wouldn't be a bad idea.

I am being "adamant" that the problem is definetely not my driveshaft because I replaced mine with a brand new aluminum DS as what this board has mentioned. And I noticed no improvements, Shoebox, you told me to wait until i replaced my DS and report back and now I am. I feel like its something wrong with my front suspension, the car seems to pull to the right when driving and sometimes the car pulls to the right even noticeable when breaking. I know thats an alignment issue, but I dont know if an alignment can cause a bad vibration? Another thing, when I back out (only sometimes especially first thing in the morning) going left or right from a parking space, I hear this one "bok" sound infront of the car,,,anything?

The shop did not mention anything about the U-joint, shoebox, do you mean that the aluminum DS from Jason Cromer still needs to get balance before installation? I dont quite understand, does U-joint needs balancing? sorry no Idea at all!

according to the symptoms above, could an alignment solved this problem? thanks

Ok, I remember now. No way to keep up with everyone's problems. Maybe you should have included that you just put a brand new DS in or give some pertinent history.

Your new DS would have new u-joints in it, so hopefully it is fine. Poor toe-in can cause the front tires to "scrub" and that would feel like a vibration. If you have not had the alignment checked, you might do so. The "bok" noise you hear could be tie rod ends or even ball joints that are worn out. The pulling could be from alignment, brakes or even a bad wheel hub.

I'm gonna agree with ball-joints. Had the same thing on my beater car. A lot of the time when backing out, and turning to the side with the bad ball joint (left side i think), it would make this god awful metal on metal squeel. Anyways, once replaced and the car was aligned it was like new.

I found the main source of the vibration,,but i still need HELP!

okay, I put the car in park and rev the engine up a little by little. The vibration was still there even on park, and I feel thesame thing when i'm driving, so i know that most of the vibration is comming more and more noticeable when the RPM arises. It making the exhaust like cough vibrates too...

it's like its comming from the bottom of the car but feel like its comming from the engine..

what else now....please help!

plugs/wires/opti/waterpum are brand new installed late last week. The vibration is stll there even on park when I rev the engine up,, worst starting at 2K and increasing.

Can it be drive shaft related (if not installed correctly/unbalanced) even the vibration exist even on park?

after searching this forum:
I found out that engine mounts could cause to vibrate increasingly when RPM increased. Is this true? how can I check the engine mounts? how hard is it to check engine mounts? thanks

Thanks shoebox

I went out there again and check this time i paid attention closely to the vibration and the RPM. Heres the result.

900 to about 1500 RPM's I feel the vibration at the steering wheel (if i maintain at this RPM the vibration stays the same) after 1500 to 2200 the vibration transfered to the pedal only a little bit on the steering wheel, after 2200 vibration transfers to the back of the car....

the car is in park!

Please help

It's not going to be a driveshaft problem with it in park. Is this something new or did it have this before all the parts were replaced? Take a look at your crank pulley. Is it wobbling or anything? Did you have the crank hub off at any time?

yes I have this viberation before all this install but ignored it because i thought I just needed some tires, but after replacing the tires, I got even more worried when vibrations still existed. And here I am now trying to track it down.

I do not know anything about engines at all, learing as I go rightnow. where is crank pulley or crank hum ? one pulley came off I know, the big one (infront middle of the car) by the water pump. I dont thinks are those pulleys at all since I have this vibe before everthing came off for the parts install.

Injectors are good because the dealer run a test on them and its good.

so what is the explanation of the TRANSFERING OF THE VIBRATION from the steering wheel(steering wheel hop a little bit) then to the foot pedals and then moved to the back of the car through the exhaust as the RPM changes

this is when the car is park

THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME OUT.

yeah shoebox i looked at your website and searched for the crank pulley hub photo,, and YES!!! that specific pully was pulled to have access to something when my opti/water pump instal. But it is installed correctly even torque correctly. how do I check this?
