How much oil out the push rods?
How much oil out the push rods?
I was adjusting my roller rockers after installing a new set of lifters and there wasn't but a drop at a time coming out the pushrods. Even when at 2-3000 rpms there was just a trickle. How much should there be? I a running German Castrol with 20 lbs pressure at idle.

there wont be much oil coming out of the pushrod at idle. especially when you first get things going. even with 40 psi oil pressure it will still take the oil 20-30 seconds, on average, to come through the pushrods. the pushrods do not have a direct feed from the oiling system. the pushrod only feeds off of the oil that the lifter recieves through it's oiling hole. so really, the pushrods have more of a secondary oiling. on top of the head doesn't require much oil anyways. only the rocker arm rollers and pivots need oil and the springs will require some for cooling. higher rpm's is when lots of oil starts to push throughthe pushrods. and even then, it's not really that much. i would think you are perfectly fine
Re: How much oil out the push rods?
My engine has only 60K on it. I just did an Auto-RX flush using penz 5w30. That's the oil that gave me 20 lbs hot at idle just before I changed it. Just switched back to GC and have around 30 lbs at hot idle. I think the oil is fine. Just wondering what volume of oil should be coming up the pushrods. There's absolutely no mess even at 3000 rpms with the valve covers off, barely a trickle.

Not a mess with the covers off at 3000.O well, it sounds like it ain't got enough oil pressure to put it up there or volume,as I said originally.

Re: How much oil out the push rods?
mother of god. lt1's only require around 6 psi at idle to be acceptable, and thats pretty bad. 20-25psi of oil pressure at a hot idle for an lt1 is very typical. nothing wrong with your pressure....i repeat, nothing wrong with your pressure. like i said earlier, the pushrods do not recieve oil directly from the oiling system, rather it feeds off of what the lifter recieves. it's not going to gush out most of the time. u can check for dirt in the pushrods or something, but the pressure is fine. as long as some oil gets there to do its little job, it'll be fine. the rockers are not a major lubrication point anyways
