I took my car to go get tune today on a mustang dyno and was wondering if my number were pretty good or not from just a hotcam kit? First try it was at 280hps then after spending the whole day we got it at 300hps with a perfect A/F. Are these # right? I'll try to post dyno sheet but what do you guys think? would like to know what other hotcam people got in there dyno and track time aswell.

 

It would be best if you made a signature with your other mods to give everyone a better idea of what you should put down. You do have other mods right?

my mods are SLP shorties with 2 cats, flowmaster exhaust,K&N intake kit ,hotcamkit, that it.

 

I am guessing its a 96-97?, either way that seems a bit lower than average, perhaps its the shorties holding you back, but with just bolt on's you should pulling over 280. Is this car a A4 or M6?

it actually a 94 with newer yr headers. it a A4 also.

haha funny^^^....that does sound low. I was thinking it should be in the 320-340 range.

 

haha, but seriously, mustang dynos read lower than dynojets do. i think they run about 12% lower. so that would put you in the neighborhood of 330 rwhp on a dynojet. With your mods and you being an auto, id say thats not too shabby.

 

They read lower because they claim they put more load on the "treadmill" to simulate the actual road. Don't think "mustang" in the name mustang dyno actually has anything to do with ford, just horsepower... i.e.

 

I am pretty much a bolt-on 93 A4 and my hot cam put down 323 on a Dynojet. 8.4X's in the 1/8th on street tires. No stall or gears.

wow i feel cheatd. i got a 94z a4 with 355, lt4 h/c kit,mac mids,slp loudmouth,lt4 km,3.23 gears and stock converter. i only put down 290rwhp, and around 315rwtq.and got shut down around 5,000rpms because my air fuel ratio was shakey around 12.8/1.

 

Why do you feel cheated if you know that you have a problem

Fix your car and do it again!

 

12.8 may not be perfect but it isn't anything to be scared of either, 5000rpms was below peak HP too, and the 355 should gain you almost nothing over a 350. Those gears and stall though show lack of proper planning that is probably your biggest issue. LT4 heads are also not as good as newbies think they are if leaving them as cast money is much better spent porting the stockers instead.


My ZZ3 cammed with 1.5 rockers Caprice put down 260hp with heavy drivetrain(steel driveshaft tires/wheels are about 62lbs apiece, 11" drums), 87 octane mailorder tuning modified stock intake(3" pvc), stock manifolds and cats this was on a Superflow which is also supposed to read lower than a Dynojet not sure how they compare to Mustang. Oh and a Edge 2800 stall which did lighten things up a bit. Could not get peak torque due to downshifting.
