How can you gain 2-5 hp with the 1LE pulley. It free wheels just like the A/C pulley when the compressor is not engaged.

I know what you mean. I can tell a big difference with it on. Exactly like you said, less throttle response and power. It feels liek there is a big drag on the engine. Thats why i hate driving with the a/c on.

umm yea I left my cigarette lights in while running the 1/4 mile one day (my mistake) and I was 10 seconds slower.

hahaha ok for real, put your car on blocks, turn the A/c on and put a brick on the gas pedal. then when its at a 1/4 tank, fill it up, and then do the same thing the following day with the A/c off.....

lol its a dumb@$$ idea but its the only way to find out. The conditions on both runs will be the exact same (no hills, same air temp, same RPM's) as long as its an automatic. Just put it in 1st gear and let it run at about 4k and leave it at that. And try not to leave the cigarette lighter in

"Maybe my car is a freak,"

Are you saying you have a freak AC compressor?

I think the only HP that could actually be gained from the 1-LE pulley is if it freewheels better than the AC. Mine does but it might be a bearing problem with the compressor. regardles mabye 1 or 2 hp.

I was always under the impression that you can feel a 5 HP loss / gain. But if you can easily feel the AC it may be 10 or so. But also keep in mind that your are only generating a small amount of HP at the low RPMs low throttle conditions when the AC is on so 10 HP is alot.

Yes, I hate that feeling of the car when the AC is on.. mine is REAL sluggish.. at a stop, almost feels like it has a miss or something.. or maybe it is just my mind

Dave Feerst,

That's a good point, I thought of that too. Since you aren't generating much horsepower at low RPM when you aren't full throttle, a small hp loss due to the AC will seem like a lot. I'm guessing it's closer to 10-15 hp but that's just a guess by how it feels.
