How much HP can the stock bottom end handle?
Re: How much HP can the stock bottom end handle?
I think you'll be fine with a 100-125 shot. I've been using a 150-175 shot for a few years now without issues. Stock 77k mile LT1 shortblock. I know I'm pushing over 500RWH+ on the dope. Just make sure your fuel system is capable.

If it is a factory bottom end ya won't last long at 500RWHP.
It would have to be built to take 500FWHP N/A and live.
Guys run a hundred shot all the time but that doesn't equal 500RWHP with a stock engine.

i'd think it'd be alright if it's a head/cam and nitrous car, cuz just with the heads/cam and all the other stuff you'll prolly be around a good 400 RWHP so then u'd just be spraying a little 100-125 shot to bump that around 500RWHP. You don't really hear about too many people breaking rods or the crank on these LT1s even with a lot of power.

Re: How much HP can the stock bottom end handle?
There are really too many variables to answer a question like that accurately.....forged pistons alone won't help at all "if" a wristpin or a rod bends, or any number of other common things go wrong.......the big thing with nitrous as it applies to the power levels were talking about here(about 400RWHP NA and another 100RWHP worth of nitrous), is that you never let it go lean....I've seen a 75 shot blow a hole right thru a high dollar forged piston more than a couple times over the years when it went lean, so it's not always the size shot that does it.........I'm currently at we'll over 500 RWHP and over 600 RW Foot LB's of torque with a 4 bolt main stock bottom end and having no problems(maybe that has helped a bit)......In my opinion Im probably right around the "somewhat" safe limit of the stock bottom end.......In some peoples views I've talked to, Im "way" past the safe limit, but the fact remains that I've got another 8 months worth of abuse on it with the current mods in my sig on top of the previous years and years worth.....I just performed a cylinder leakdown test last weekend, and a full cranking compression test (4 rev's for each cylinder) and everything is as even as can be, so obviously the power hasn't cause any verifiable damage yet
.......but if it blew tomorrow It wouldn't shock me

I ran a stock crank, stock rods, forged 11:1 speed pro pistons with new clevite bearings and a new oil pump a basically stock bottom end with 403rwhp all motor and a 250 shot for almost 2 years then I sold the car.
