how much hp to break a rearend on the street

I broke my rearend (10 bolt) on the street (always running street tires) before I had chance to go the track or get it on a dyno. The gears were 1.5-2 years old with no track runs on them. They were also installed by a very good shop in Baton Rouge, same shop that the guys the thunder racing use to install their gears. So I don't think it was workmanship.

they broke on the 1-2 shift.

Buddy of mine broke his gears also with street tires with a M6. M6 + 10-bolt = Any serious driving seems to require a rearend upgrade. I see you have Meaux heads. Larry Meaux? I just came back from BR to pick up some wheels for my Mustang.

you cant really awnser that with a specific number. It all depends on a lot of variables. it just sucks and there is hardly anything you can do about it but fix it. most of us who still have the beloved 10 bolt have been there time and time again.

belive me its the spec clutch I went threw 3 rear ends (street tires)before my little 260 flywheel hp camaro had to have a $2,300 moser 12 bolt and my 500+Flywheel hp TA still lives on a 10 bolt running slicks

its the clutch my 305 TBI 260 flywheel hp went threw 3 rearends and then I put in the $2,300 moser 12 bolt. My TA runs probally 500 flywheel hp and runs 11.70's Before H&C And still lives on the 10 bolt with 3.23 gears I have broke on gear set in it. 3.73...Wish me luck... looking for 1.5X 60ft's now..

But you are going to have to get a softer clutch or just dont power shift it thats when Mine would break them I stoped doing that and they lasted.

you could be right, but I don't think the rearend would have lasted as long as it did.

HP does not effect the rear end that much the rear end is like a tranny torque is what kills them.

does this mean that a converter with a high STR is worse for the rear ends?

Yes it is harder on the rearend but not as hard a spec stage 3. I have a 2.5 str in my 3,200 stall. I pull 1.63 best 60ft try that with a 6speed on a 10 bolt for more than 5 passes J/K
