How much is an alternator?

Mine is broken....the stud the wire bolts to is loose and it causes the check gauge light to flicker.

The stud can be repaired/replaced or tightened without buying a whole new alt.

Got one the other day from AutoZone for around $85. It is exactly the same as my stock alternator ( same #s on the casting and all) and has a lifetime warranty . -----------> Brad

I got one from Autozone for 99+core, this is a stock remanufactured one, they also have a new AC Delco for around 180+core.

try putting wate on the belt and see if the sound goes away. As for the alt. I had never heard it make noise. Usually it just doesn't charge the battery any more.

Mine was 'singing' for about 10 min or so after start up but charged just fine. I replaced it with a nifty powder coated 180amp from www.mralternator.com Not cheap compared to the Autozone one, but it's pretty nice.

Well.....I took it apart and found the loose nut ....put a drop of loctite on it and tightened it back up. Put it back together and put it back on the car and hey, hey its good to go. Thanx Shoebox for pointing me in the right direction.

It has happened to others, that's why I knew about it.

No need to spend $100 if you can spend nothing, eh? That's what fixing things yourself is all about!

That's just friggin' wrong.
