How much 50/50 is needed?

Hey everyone, I am draining out the coolant again because I don't think I did it right the first time....now I'm stuck. I took the drain plugs forom the block out and the t-stat out and the other stuff you have to do...I ran water till the white foam was no longer there and the water and coolant mixture was crstal clear. I poured some coolant and distilled miture into the H2O pump (of course pluggin up everything) untill it was maxed out. Put the t-stat back in, water neck on. Now I am filling up the rad and so far it has consumed BARELY 1 gallon of the mixture. I ran the car up and down the road...just to see what would happen. The low coolant light came on so now of course I'm going to fill it up!

The question is...once it cools all the way down...should I pop the top off the rad and fill it up, bleed off the air with the bleeder screws. OR, fill up the reserve untill its maxed out?

Thanks everyone for your help!!!

You should add the coolant with the engine running.Turn it on after it has had time to cool right down. Then start filling it intill the coolant just start to over flow when the engine is warm. Then let it get to operating temp and bleed the system.

Okay, I check the fluid level after a couple of hours and it was still the same. Turned the car on, let it run until the t-stat opened and it was maintaining the same level. in the owners manual it says that it needs something like 15 liters? I forget now...but The temp rose up to 235* and then the low speed fan kicked on. The temp then went back to 200* then three minutes later it went back up to 235* and of course the fans cooled it down like it was supposed too. Does everyones car idel to a temp of 235 or whenever the fans come on if they have tunning?

the water pump is about 50 thousand miles old...new slp 160* t-stat...and I am about to put in a manual fan switch....just because I don't like the fact that it goes all the way to 235* while ideling...no gassing the car or anything. Oh yea...I let it idel for about 10 minutes...15 minutes, somewhere near there.

Can anyone help me trouble shoot this please? Thanks for the help again Wraith!

I had the same problem when I put in my new water pump. It kept above 200. I filled it then used the bleeder screws to get all the air out. Refilled and then drove it down the interstate for 15 minutes or so,refilled then I had no problems after this.

Yea but for me I unscrew the bleeder valves and nothing but pure hot as hell coolant comes out...and this stuf shoots out! Maybe when I drive to work tomorrow and drive back something like that will happen..but I already drove it for 3 miles and then let it cool down...popped the top off the rad and it was full! ow can it be that I drained out the rad and block...and barely one gallon fits in there??
