How many rpm's are factory GM opti's good for?
I think the high RPM shift points in my tune killed my 120K opti that worked perfectly before, but I can't back that up yet since the Opti isn't off yet. My shift points are about 6650 I believe and my revlimiter is 6800. Before I install my new Delco Opti I'm going to locktite the rotor screws and keep my fingers crossed that it holds together
Tact may be lacking at times, but I find Dwayne's posts most helpful, regardless of the various tangents they may take. Sometimes folks need to be told what they don't want to hear.
On a side (and another tangent) note: SSJokerAce regularly calls people ignorant, and I have yet to see you publicly chastise him for it
I think the LT4 was redlined to 6300 rpm from the factory. So, GM probably tested above that RPM. I have found through several OPTI installs, that you dont just slap one in and go, especially if you changed camshafts, etc etc. Clerances with the dowel pin, and many other factors can make the opti last forever or not very long at all. It is a delicate piece, but if installed right, blueprinted, like dynaspark did, it can be a very good running high rpm piece.
You're really not helping this thread. He asked a specific question relative to RPM. But you've gone off once again on your crusade to defend the Opti, calling people ignorant. How many times have I asked you to stop it?
Now the whole thread has been converted - due to your post - into a debate about timing chains.
You are definitely not helping anyone out here, and I'm asking you one more time - this time publicly, since you don't appear to even have read my previous PM's - to knock it off.

It is applicable in that the original poster has obviously read about the vast evils of the opti written on this forum
. My explaining things in detail like I did and sighting another example helps him wade through all the bad info and get to the truth. Sort of the old "teach a man to fish" thing
.I did not call an idividual ignorant, made no personal attacks.
How about this? 10K miles on an MSD cap and rotor 80K on the base, during the shift it has been topping 6400rpms the whole time the MSD cap and rotor has been on, all is good sofar.
