How many people get that annoying squeak every time they hit a bump?

I know lots of people have it. What the hell is it and how do I fix it... I have a feeling it might be the ****ty brake pad brackets in the caliper letting the pad wiggle a little bit but I don't know... Anybody know for sure what it is and how to fix that short little high pitched squeak???

well it could be the brakes, i sometimes get that sound. also everytime i used to hit a bump, i would hear a loud squeaking sound. turned out to be the rear gate. i just tightened it down and end of story. the gate also can rub against the spot it rests. look for rub marks and put some duct tape over it, and that should solve your problem if it is the rear hatch. as far as the brakes, i dont know what you can do

Mine was a convo.... the brake pads and the Panhard rod.

My rear calipers were warped (ex riding with parking brake on) and the pads were being rubbed against the caliper making that squeeky sound that I thought my wheel bearings had gone out...

I took it to a mechanic and after he hit the area a few times he discover it was the pads rubbing but did not pin down the rotors as the source of the friction problem.. so he added a bit of "grease" to the edge of the Pads (solid metal part) and the problem went away.. only to return a few days later.. by then I knew the rotors were warped ... I replaced both rotors and the problem was solved... then after I went on speed bumps it would give me a slow squeeky sound ... I ended up removing the upper panhard rod bold and greasing the sides of the rubber bushing... that problem was solved too.

Has been quiet ever since..... a warning note though... It was a b.i.t.c.h to put that parhard rod bolt back... My car was on a jack and it shifted just a milimiter sideways... I even banged on the friggin thing.. no luck.. so I got me "what do you call it" press thing like the one used to push the piston back in to the calipers when you do the brakes?? a big one mind you and simply pressed the bolt back in... oh it was so easy it even pissed me off just thinking how hard I have been trying just moments earlier..

i get it everytime i hit a larger size bump too. I am thinking it is my poly LCA bushings, but then it sounds like it is more "in" the car. Hopefully someone will find it...

Here is my $.02. Take a look at your springs. There are rubber covers on the ends where the spring sits on the rear end. My rubber covers are worn out. That's what I think is making the noise.

Check the rear seat latch ....i had this problem on my lt1 and thats what it was..then I got my SS and never put the rear seat down and i never had the problem....one day i had to put it down to move some stuff and when I folded the seat back up it made that damn sound when I hit the first bump....I was pissed....some electrical tape took care of the problem for me..

My car never had the "sqeaks" like a fat man taking one, until I installed aftermarket sway bars with bushings(not poly) on front and back. The sound only comes from the front and is heard with every dip and speed bump on the roadway. (to be clear)

I have since replaced with Energy Suspension High Polyurethane Bushings all around. Sounds are down to a minimal.

Boy did I hate telling the dates that sound was a aftermarket product at work. It almost felt like a ricer line. ; )

Another common Firebird squeak is from the console, where the dash meets it. Stick some foam in there and it'll go away. It happens mostly when it's colder outside.

I have the exact same problem, no sweakes at all until my back tires hit the speed bumps. Kind of annoying if you as me.

Hmm well I have tried a lot of things, I got electrical tape on the rear seats and the trunk, no spare tire, I backed out those little rubber thingies on the hatch... I am pretty sure it's coming from the rear suspension. I think what I will do is have my little brother push the rear up and down while I'm under the car, I'm gonna track the culprit down and let you guys know. If anybody else knows please post.

I gotta put some kind of foam inbetween my dash too, maybe weather stripping???

i had the same problem and it was the hatch. What you need to do is take a hammer and tap the catch on the hatch (for the latch) and hit it so it hooks closer to the latch, squeek be gone, hopes this helps, prorac1

i had an interior squeak and i just put some electrical tape on the hatch loop and its gone. i also put some electrical tape on the metal posts the back seat attaches too just because thats another common place. no squeaks inside anymore. now my brakes squeak like crazy lol.

The rear hatch latch position is adjustable, pull back the liner and you'll find the bolts to allow you to adjust the position further down.
