What do you mean.. the block itself?

There's guys that have broken the 1000hp mark on LT1 blocks. How long they will last is beyond me, but that should give you an idea.

Re: How many HP can LT1 handle?

From you initial post, I couldn't tell if your talking about motor or chassis. At this point I'm going to assume you mean the motor.

This is a very vague question. As Javier said, people have broken the 1000 HP mark on and LT1 block all day long.

I don't know how much power you can make by modding an LT1 without touching the motor. Intake, exhaust and programming will give you significant gains with no trouble to the motor. Are you consider Heads/Cam? Forced Induction? Nitrous?

You need to be a little more specific

Untouched block or shortblock?

I'm just not getting the question...

The stock rotating assembly can take a beating, but there's no magic #.. at this point the youngest LT1 is going to be 9 years old, and has probably seen some miles.

yeah l meant stock shortblock..

like you got a bone stock LT1 and you wanna put some bolts on stock motor to make it faster.. also how about chasis.. l heard that bone stock LT1 broke rear axle with sticky tires.. is that correct?

Re: How many HP can LT1 handle?

A stock LT1 can handle all the bolt-ons you can throw at it, and most do fine with a set of heads and cam as well.

The 82-02 7.625" 10 bolt is weak, no doubt, but A4 cars can usually last a bit longer with 'em. I have 300 or more passes on my stock 10 bolt, and it's still alive and kickin', with 1.6x 60' times.

Re: How many HP can LT1 handle?

yes the rear axle and rear end is weak, there is alot of talk about how weak they are, although i know 2 guys around here that run 1.4 60 on 250 hit off the line that dont break them...but it is the same rear end as the ls1, so they have no advantage there...a stock shortblock im assuming your gettin at rotating assembely...so we can add an aftermarket cam...i know weve broken 650+ hp...

Yes, there have been bone stock LT1s that broke the stock 10-bolt within the first 10 passes with nothing but drag radials on. But those were exceptions, not the rule. Eventually, the 12-bolt will go out. But you might get lucky and get a few hundred passes with it. Just run it til it blows, knowing that it probably will someday.

Re: How many HP can LT1 handle?

The two documented failures of the LT1 PM connecting rods that I have seen both failed near the 600HP mark. GM rates the rods for 450HP. Anything substantially over 500 would seem to be pressing your luck.

The block itself is not the weak part..... I've personally seen an LT1 factory 4-bolt main block (with upgraded caps) stand up reliably to 1,125HP with no fill.
