how many hours to fix infamous intake leak and change oil sending unit

Just curious how long is the time to do the following

replace intake manifold gaskets ( what is the part number for the gaskets?)

replace oil sending unit.

dunno how much experience under the hood you have so cant put a time really on it, like 1-1.5 hours is a good reasonable amount of time..the first time i did it was a little longer because i was bein ridiculously extra cautious, just make sure you scrape away the previous gaskets well an scuff the surface with a scotch pad or a light grit sand paper so the gasket adhesive that you chose to use will stick extra well and make sure you tighten those bolts in sequence with the right torque specs

I would say about 2 hours. I did it in 1.5 but I had all the tools that I needed, and my friend as my wingman...Sending unit is easy, 5 minutes job. Unscrew old one and put new unit in the same place But make sure that the unit is the problem not the wiring...

Not to scare you but the first time I did it, it took me about 6+ hours. I was being extra carefull when I was disconecting all the vacum lines and it was also my first "Big/engien" project so I took my time. But if you confertable it can be done in 2 hours.

a respectable shop here charged me 75 bucks to replace the gasket and the sending unit.

what do you mean it has to sit 24 hours? can't it be done and complete in less than that? thanks I have to drive 70 miles to the shop and 24 hours of wait is a bit long... please explain. thanks

The silicone has to dry up before you drive the car. And during intake installation you have to use a lot of it (front and back doesn’t have gasket, so silicon have to seal the gap between intake and bock...
ps. $75 is very cheap!!!

yeah $75 for both the gasket an sending unit? thats a sweet deal if you dont got the time to do it yourself or just dont feel comfortable

I always see oil on the ground ( a little bit) maybe a penny size dot which wet the gound but not sticking out just wet penny size ground. where else can it be leaking instead of this. tranny shop told me my rear main seal was driy and not leaking..

so this mean intake leak or oil sending unit right?

depends how far back from the front of the car the drop on the ground is...my car was leaking so badly i had 4 leaks an thought it was just one big one, could be the crank seal behind the water pump (check to see if your h2o pump has some oil on it and check your belts to see if they got oil on it, when it drips on there it hits the belts sometimes and makes a fckin mess of your engine bay, check your valve covers especially the far back corners that are tucked under the cowl kind of, possibly the intake, you said you mechanic told you the rear main is nice an dry which is great cuz its a pain in the **** to fix unless u are swappin the clutch out as well =), and see if the seal on your oil pan is dry as well, hope this helps

4 hours if you do it yourself.. No need to disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail.. just un bolt it from the manifold, pick up of and place it out of the way...

You'll need a special socket to use on the oil sending sensor or u might beable to use a wrench once the intake is off..

I suggest u go to GM and pick up some GM grey sealant.. Stuff is like RTV but much better. I think the stuff was designed for that intake leak or something..
