You must have the 2.73 like I did YUCKKKKKKKK!!!! Just pull the consol off and take a hak saw blade and cut this piece of plastic off blocking from going into 1st. Try to put it into 1st with the consel off and you will see what is blocking it.

lol guess i should have looked at it, sounnds simple enough... and yes, 2.73 = yuck

 

Not recommended unless you have 3.23 gears or higher, Just what i heard might want to recheck, but i had 2.73's and swapped to 3.73's and then did the first gear select..

 

No the reason GM did that was for noise level or something stuip I believe. That may not sound like a reason. It isn't dangerous though.
