I have a pretty much stock 93 Lt1 and we take it to car shows.. ive seen other lt1 motors (stock) and they seem to be quite. but mine has always been loud (sounds like it has a bigger cam) i just got the loudmouth put on and has the mean muscle car sound (which was still their with the stock exhaust system). So im just wondering if sound restrictions were different in 1993 or something els. It has stock exhaust manifiods too.

 

Maybe the cat was gutted.

 

I gutted my cat on my 93 t/a when i had the Crapmasters on it and it got 3times louder. So then i went with the borla. That cat makes a big difference on the sound.

 

I dunno, but some earlier Lt1s came with a "cone of silence" which was just a sleeve type thingy located just inside the exhaust pipe where it enters the muffler. Many remove it as a restriction---which I assume would also make it louder. JMHO

 

The cat isnt gutted beacause at the exhaust shop they checked it for because i wanted to put a high flow cat on but they told me that the current one is really clean and doesnt need to be replaced. Ill get you a video clip of the car so u can hear it later today.

 

I've read that the "cone of silence" was only in the 96 and 97 f-body's due to newer exhaust regulations.

 

that only applied to SS cars.

 

When I installed my borla, I had to use the straightpipe that came with it until I had received a new cat. The straight pipe makes it EXTREMELY loud, almost deafening. When I got the cat put on, the sound did decrease noticeably, to almost muffled. If you went to the loudmouth with the stock cat (or a replacement cat), you should be pretty damn loud. I noticed that some 93's seem to be loud for what they are stock, but they might have some loose or beat up exhaust...they are 13 years old now (gulp)...

thats a audio clip with the new loumouth exhaust.. but nothing els is done to the motor.. only changes are cai and cat back. so why does it sound like it has loads of power haha.

And i know it back fires a bit more, is that a computer tune to fix that or how do u fix it?

 

That's kinda how mine sounds at idle...

 

They are quiet stock. Too quiet if ask me. Yours must have had someting done to the exhaust, or maybe an exhaust leak?

And yes, the "cone of silence" was only for the Camaro SS.

my '94 was loud stock. It sounded about the same at idle with a stock muffler as it does with a Flowmaster, but in the higher RPMs the Flowmaster is louder

 

nope everything is stock except cai and loudmouth..

so im just wondering why mine is so much louder

 

Yeah, the loudmouth lives up to it's name. It IS loud. No doubt about that.

doesnt sound too out of place to me *shrug* i had dual exhuast on my car with bullets when it was stock and it was really really loud, as in rattling change in the car loud lol. and even after i swapped to the ultra-flos it was still pretty loud, but its quieter at idle now with the headers *shrug* definately not the case WOT though, sound is indescribable.. no one i asked has been able to compare it to another car lol.
