I just recently installed hooker long tube headers and a off road Y-pipe on my 1997 Z28 and I thought my car was going to be alot louder than it was, So now i'm thinking about putting a cut-out on before the muffler , My question is how much louder will my car be with a cut-out on now that it does not have any cats?

Louder. Dunno exactly how to measure volume on a message board.

Don't expect the headers to amplify the volume of your exhaust. If anything, it will be smoother and less harsh.

 

what 'cat'back do you have?

 

It still has the stock exhaust.

 

With my shorties and ofroad y-pipe it sounds like **** with the cut-out open. Way way way loud.

 

There's the reason it's so quiet. Get a catback (Hooker, Borla, SLP, something) and that'll open her right up

 

My hooker catback is loud an raspy with the cutout closed. I put the cats in for emissions and i cant even hear the car, but when they are out its pretty loud even with the muffler.

not only will it give more performance, you'll get that sound whenever you want
a cutout is very loud man
i was running one (sort of) when i had my flowmaster cut off(waiting on a piece for my new one) and it was seriously loud, though that might have something to do with it being under the passenger seat
i didn't even drive it when it was like that, just too loud and too attention attracting
you know, don't want to have another reason for cops pulling me over
